Non-Toxic Beauty on a Budget

One of the most common questions I get asked is how someone can make their makeup cleaner without having to spend a lot of money. Unfortunately when it comes to being healthy it can sometimes at first cost you more. Natural and Non-Toxic Makeup and Skincare products are not as easily available as chemical filled ones are. You have to do more searching and try to find which places offer the best deals. The upside to using non-toxic beauty products is that your skin will be happier and so will your body for not taking in as many chemicals. You will also find that over time you will find it easier to read labels and to know which cosmetics are harmful and which are not. There are many amazing sites online where you can buy non-toxic makeup and skincare but for those who do not like to shop online it can be a tad difficult finding good options.

I have found some great options for those of you who are on a budget and who my not want to order things online. All of these products mentioned you can find at places like Target, CVS, Walmart and many local supermarkets and health food stores and are all under $20.00.

Physicians Formula is a great option for changing over to non-toxic makeup. Not every product of theirs is completely clean and some of them do contain nasty ingredients like parabens which you should look out for but their Organic Wear line is completely Organic and they sell many products that do not rank too high in toxicity. A few of my favorite items of theirs are the Organic Wear Jumbo Lash Mascara ($9.95), the Shimmer Strips Eye Gel Liners($11.00), the Eye Boosting Liner($10.96) and the Talc-Free Mineral Wear Loose Powder($13.95).

Burt’s Bees is super affordable and easy to find at most stores. I love their simplicity in packaging and ingredients and I swear by a few of their products such as the Citrus Facial Scrub($8.00), Tinted Lip Balm($7.00), Lip Shimmers ($5.00), Soap Bark & Chamomile Deep Cleansing Cream ($8.00),  and the Honey & Shea Sugar Body Scrub ($13.00).

Alba Botanica is the first natural line I ever discovered when I first became interested in switching over to non-toxic beauty products. At one point I only used their face, body and hair products which I still love to this day. They are affordable and smell absolutely delicious. I think their products are comparable to many higher end skincare lines. Some of my favorites; Deep Sea Facial Mask($11.49), Complexion Balancing Hibiscus Toner($12.95), Deep Cleansing Coconut Milk Cleanser($12.95), Nourishing Coconut Milk Body Cream($13.99).

Nature’s Gate you can find these products at Target for extremely reasonable prices. Their Herbal Shampoo and Conditioner($7.79 each) are what I use on a daily basis along with their Fragrance-Free Moisturizing Lotion($9.95) and Acai Moisturizing Lotion($11.69).

  1. Although I have switched to non-toxic personal care a while ago, this post was very helpful and very well put together. Especially the lists at the end! No excuses, everyone can green-up their routines! Thanks for sharing Britanie.

  2. I LOVE this post! It’s hard trying to find less expensive safer alternatives to the popular commercial brands. This list is exactly what I need… thank you. So glad I stumbled across your post on The Clean Beauty Blog… you guys are helping me make this otherwise tough transition that much easier.
