I apologize for the lack of updates on my blog lately. I have been working really hard at moving my blog over to a self-hosted site which is a lot more work than I had anticipated. I want to have more freedom with my blog which is what inspired me to do this move but I didn’t realize it would take me so long to get everything up and ready.

I am also working on setting up a space for recording YouTube videos on a regular basis. Between the blog changes and working on new things, I have also been struggling with my health more so than usual lately. I’ve been having a very difficult time and it has made everything that much harder for me to get finished! I am still motivated as ever though, to keep things growing and to keep progressing no matter what the situation. I am extremely resilient and thankful for that.

While I am working on blog changes, I would love to know what you would all like to see me post more about. Are you more interested in reviews, makeup looks, health-related posts, fashion, recipes, diy’s, etc? Please feel free to leave your feedback in the comments and let me know what you are the most interested in reading on my blog. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I want to produce more content that YOU want to see.

I promise regular blog updates will resume soon but in the mean time I am very active over on my instagram account: @beautybybritanie and update there almost every day. Please follow me there if you want to keep up with me and bare with me while I work on making my blog even better. I am not tech savvy and it’s not easy for me but I will get there!!

Green Beauty Makeup Look and Healthy Expectations

Hi everyone, I hope you are all enjoying 2014 so far. I’m back with my first makeup look for 2014!

I wanted to quickly talk about healthy expectations. With the pressure so many of us put on ourselves for New Years Resolutions, let’s each begin with a few important small steps. Changing over just one mainstream makeup item for a new clean product. Drinking an extra glass of water. Having a healthy vitamin packed green smoothie for breakfast to start our day right. Making an honest effort to keep our thinking positive. Smiling and laughing more. Just begin now. You’ll be amazed at what you will have accomplished within just one week.

Now onto the makeup… :)

Get This Look:

1. I prepped my face with Vapour Organic Beauty Stratus Instant Skin Perfector and then applied the new Kjaer Weis Foundation in the color “Like Porcelain”. I started out using the Kjaer Weis Foundation Blush to apply to smaller areas on my face like around my nose and my eyes. I then blended everything out with a damp Beauty Blender.

2. Instead of adding a blush I decided to mix together my RMS Beauty Buruti Bronzer and Living Luminizer which created a very subtle warm glow to the cheeks, cheekbones and temples.

3. For the eyes I used the Bdellium Tools Green Bambu Smoky Eye Brush Kit to apply two colors from the Jane Iredale Glamour Eye & Lip Palette and Kjaer Weis Wisdom Eyeshadow. I started with RMS Beauty Living Luminizer as an eyelid primer and base all over the lid using my fingers. I then applied Wisdom (a metallic taupe shimmer) with the 777B Shadow Brush and lightly applied Merlot (a matte eggplant color) to the crease of my eyes with the 781B Crease Brush and blended really well. I then used a 760B Liner Brush to apply the Zuzu Luxe Raven Liquid Liner. Using a liner brush can help to give you a more sturdy line. To make my eyes pop I added Hush (a sheer shimmer pink color) to the inner corners of my eyes using the 716 Smoky Eyeliner Brush. I curled my lashes, applied one coat of Kjaer Weis Mascara and applied EcoTools Eyelashes

4. For my brows I used the Jane Iredale Bitty Brow Kit in the color “Brunette”.

5. For my lips I wanted to use one of my absolute favorite lip products and colors: Kjaer Weis Sensuous Plum Lip Tint – it gives the perfect almost nude plum tint to the lips and I found that W3LL People Paganist Lipgloss in #2 wears very well over top! It adds a warm glow to the plum that is very flattering.

Happy Holidays + Mulberry Wine Makeup Look

Happy Holidays Everyone!! I hope you are all having a wonderful week. I wanted to do a quick post showing the makeup look I wore last night. I had been wanting to try out a lip product from Bite Beauty for quite some time so when I recently stopped by Sephora I decided to check out some of their lipsticks. When I was browsing through all of the different lip colors, I was instantly drawn to the color Mulberry. I swatched it on my hand and fell in love. I couldn’t wait to put this deep wine color on my lips! This color inspired me to do a very quick holiday-inspired look before heading out to celebrate Christmas Eve. All photos were taken with my iphone so I apologize for the quality!

Bite Beauty’s lipsticks are formulated WITHOUT – Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Synthetic Dyes, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, GMOs, Triclosan. They are free of synthetics, polybutenes, and petroleum byproducts and made exclusively with lip nurturing food-grade ingredients that are healthy enough to eat.

For this look I used Real Techniques Core Collection Brushes for my face and Bdellium Tools Green Bambu Smokey Eye Set for my eyes. I will specify which brushes used for each product below.

How I Achieved This Look:

I started by priming my skin with Vapour Organic Beauty Stratus Instant Skin Perfector

I then applied Kjaer Weis Foundation in “Like Porcelain” with the Pointed Foundation Brush to targeted areas that needed coverage (around my nose, chin, under eyes) I then blended out the foundation using the Buffing Brush. Used the Contour Brush to apply Kjaer Weis Desired Glow Blush on the apples of my cheeks. I also contoured with this blush using the Detailer Brush.

For the eyes I wanted to keep it neutral with the colors (since the lips are the main focus of this look) and do a slight winged out liner. For this I lightly brushed a pink color all over my lid using the 777B Shadow Brush, and then using the 781B Crease Brush I blended a light brown shadow to the crease of my eye. Both colors were from Jane Iredale’s Glamour Eye & Lip Palette. I lined my eyes with 100% Pure Black Tea Gel Liner to the top lash-line using the 760B Liner Brush.I also lightly swept the same brown color to the lower lash-line and applied Kjaer Weis Mascara to the lower lashes and Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara to the top. I filled in my eyebrows using Jane Iredale’s Bitty Brow Kit.

I lined my lips with BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Liner in “Electrified” – (a royal plum) and then applied two layers of Bite Beauty Luminous Creme Lipstick in “Mulberry” – (wine).

All Is Well – The Power Of Positive Affirmations

I posted this photo a few days ago after reading “All Is Well” by Louise Hay and Mona Lisa Schulz. If you haven’t read this or any of her other books I highly recommend you do so. She is an incredible person and a huge inspiration in my life. She has helped to heal many people from chronic health issues, pain and anxiety. I have suffered from chronic pain and anxiety disorder for years and I am constantly researching natural ways to heal myself. Positive affirmations have been such a huge help in my life.

Positive affirmations may seem ridiculous to some but there is scientific proof that they work at healing the entire mind and body. I have touched on the importance of positive affirmations before but I have to say I am even more convinced now than I ever was before. I have been successfully using the tools I have learned from Louise Hay in my every day life and I have had less anxiety attacks and have experienced more self-confidence and joy. It may seem to good to be true but I assure you, it works.

Here is a brief description of All Is Well:

How Positive Affirmations Work:

Positive affirmations are a great tool to reprogram your unconscious mind from negative thinking to positive. Positive affirmations are a quick and easy way to de-stress your body and your life. Saying a mantra can make the difference in your day by setting a sense of balance to all that you do. Research has shown that every thought and emotion creates a chemical reaction because it immediately changes our neurochemicals that affect our mental, physical and spiritual health. Whenever a negative thought pops up you have the ability and the power to cancel it out by replacing it with a positive one.

How To Start:

I recommend saying an affirmation upon waking in the morning. This will help to affect all of your decision making for the day as well as your all-over attitude. Don’t stress about remembering the mantra word for word. The goal is to help de-stress. Slowly read the affirmation daily and nightly and eventually you won’t need to look at anything to remember it, it will be ingrained in you! When I first started with affirmations I would accidentally switch words around but after lots of repetition and practice, I now know them by heart. You can also say them silently when you are out in public. It’s a good stress remedy that you can always carry with you wherever you go!

Which Mantras To Choose:

Your affirmations and mantras can be unique and your own. Or they can be chosen from something you read that inspired you. I personally say mantras that I learned from Louise Hay. I picked the ones that really resonated the most with me. You can create your own or mix it up with other mantras you find elsewhere. Think about what you are trying to create or accomplish in your life. Are you looking to feel more empowered? To be more at peace? To be energized? Focus on what it is that you are trying to achieve right now and the right affirmations will fall into place.

What’s On My Nightstand…

At this busy, beautiful, albeit hectic time of the year I wanted to talk a little bit about calming yourself down before heading off to sleep all while sharing some of my nighstand staples! As we all know, but have to be reminded of, our beauty sleep is of the utmost priority. It’s right up there after drinking our filtered water, eating right, then at least eight hours of pure relaxing sleep.

I wanted to share with you a little bit my night time ritual to help me slip off into a luxurious deep restorative sleep. I also wanted to mention that with the Fibromyalgia I suffer from, sleep is not something I take for granted. I like to have many books, notebooks, balms, mists, flower essences and aromatherapy galore near my bed.

Hydration is key when it comes to healthy skin. What’s even better is when hydration and aromatherapy are combined. Enter: The Good Stuff. This is the best smelling body oil out there. It also makes you feel sexy and who doesn’t enjoy waking up to glowing skin? For times of stress or on nights when I feel restless (which is often) I use this Stress Remedy from H.Gillerman Organics daily and nightly. I like to apply a few drops to my temples and pulse points. This not only helps with anxiety but is great for those with insomnia. I also use topical essential oils for relief from Fibromyalgia and Endometriosis pain. They help me to sleep better because I find that when I use them regularly, I wake up less throughout the night with pain. I also have allergies and sinus problems which can great affect your quality of sleep, so I usually keep some type of nasal oil near my bed. The Banyan Botanicals has Eucalyptus oil in it and helps to decongest the sinuses and lubricate the nasal passages.

I can’t get enough of facial mists and flower essences. Lotus Wei’s blends work immediately and I especially love to rub the Inner Peace Serum on the bottoms of my feet before sleep. It helps with insomnia or restless sleep. R.L. Linden & Co’s Thousand Petal Beautifying Mist is one of those products that I could never be without. I use it on my face when I wake up and right before bed. Scents of Jasmine, Rose and Neroli help me to fall into a deep slumber…

I like to moisturize my hands and nails, especially before bed because I hate doing it during the day and then working on the computer and getting oil all over the place. I also always keep a Spot Treatment near my bed to dab on before I sleep and help to fight any pimples that might be starting to come out! I have been using the Bohemia Verde on the ends of my hair before bed and I wake up with noticeably shinier and deliciously smelling hair! A good candle and an eye pillow are essential for me. This lavender and grapefruit candle smells wonderful and this silk eye pillow helps with headaches, eye strain and a better sleep!

I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately and I feel stronger than ever that I truly know who I am and know the things I need to work on. I will never give up on progressing. It is a constant state for me as I do not think we are ever at our best selves. There is always more we can accomplish in this life. It can often seem easier to succumb to the harder times in our life and to stay in a place of denial. I assure you both of these couldn’t be further from the truth. When life is harder than usual, let it happen to you but don’t let it become who you are. Fight to stay strong. Strive to be more positive every day. If you can wake up every day morning that you are going to handle the day to come with grace, patience and positivity and can go to sleep knowing that you did the best that you could do, that is all that matters. You owe yourself a beautiful life.

Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the Fall.

I am so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers

I love Fall. I absolutely love it. My only complaint? It doesn’t last nearly long enough.

I take more walks in the Fall because there is something about the air that makes me feel a bit more energetic and everything just seems so much more beautiful during this time of the year. I took all of these photographs the other day and wanted to share them because I am always in awe over how Fall has the ability to make every photograph look that much more colorful and inviting. I also am sharing some of my Fall Favorites :)

I am currently loving Suki Luscious Lips Berry Cream Trio and Revolution Organics Beauty Balm in “Blushed”. I also love darker colors like Zuzu Luxe’s “Mania”.

2) Favorite Fall Nail Polish?

Mineral Fusion’s “Royal Rubble”. It’s a beautiful dark purple with subtle glitter.

3) Favorite Starbucks Fall Drink?

I usually just get a hazelnut coffee at Starbucks and then add my own Coconut Milk in it when I get home! I do like their instant coffee though and I recently picked up a Pumpkin flavored one but haven’t tried it yet.

I love boots, leggings, over sized scarves and hats.

NYC Trip & A Night For Green Beauty Recap!

First things first: I am so sorry for the lack of updates on my blog but as soon as I got home from my trip my entire laptop crashed! I was updating over on my instagram as well as on my twitter. Now that I have my laptop back I am finally able to do a proper post and recap of my trip! I spent two nights in NYC with my mom and we had a blast. To kick off the amazing trip we stayed at my absolute favorite hotel in the city; Hotel Giraffe.

After arriving into the city and getting some lunch, I later met with May Lindstrom, her lovely assistant Leilah and her husband Robert. May invited us over for tea and talks. She had the most delicious raw honey and Pukka tea’s. We talked about skincare, life, love and she shared with me some of her newest creations including a jasmine facial mist she is working on that I became a little obsessed with and kept spraying my face with. I also tried her newest face cream and honey mud cleanser. I love them all!

The day of the event I slept in as I didn’t get much sleep the night before due to being so excited for the event! I met up with Alex, Laurie, Katie, Pemberley at The Coffee Shop . It was really great to meet these lovely ladies beforehand so we could have some time to chat before heading over to the event!

When we got to the event it was already packed! I was overtaken with so many familiar faces and honestly I didn’t take as many photographs as I intended to because I was so distracted with talking to so many people! I immediately went up to May and gave her a huge hug. She had her table all set up and she looked beautiful as always.

Later on in the night May’s hubby stopped by with their daughter Talia (who I am in love with) and I was able to capture this of the two of them.This candid shot of the inspiring couple is one of the most beautiful moments I have ever had the pleasure of catching with my camera.

Not long after arriving to the event I noticed Caitlin from RoostBlog. I was so in awe over seeing her and she immediately said “Britanie!” I was like “omg you know who I am!” haha I have been a huge fan of her blog for quite some time now and am immensely inspired by her constant creative content and beautiful images. We went outside and took photos and talked for awhile. We also had a chat with Jolene Hart while sipping on the most delicious juices from Pressed Juicery! I had the Strawberry Lime with a splash of Champagne :)

I absolutely loved seeing Kimberly who I just love and adore and feel like I’ve known for years! I also met and posed in some photos with her friends Carolyn and Gina.

Other highlights of the night:

Meeting Victoria from La Bella Figura. She is such a gem. The LBF table was so packed the entire night I didn’t end up being able to try out as many products as I wanted to but I did purchase their hair oil which I have been lusting after for quite some time now! I was honored to meet and talk with Britta of CV Skinlabs for quite awhile and left with a few of her products which I can’t wait to try out more (The Rescue + Relief Spray is wonderful!!!) and review in the future. She explained the history and inspiration behind her brand. She was a true beauty and breath of fresh air.

Hanging out with Garcy and her beautiful mother, Meeting the beautiful Lina Hanson, talking with Brandie and Kristen Arnett, Meeting Katey Denno, Learning more about Hope Gillerman’s products (I am especially interested in trying the Stress Remedy and Neroli Face Oil), Trying on my favorite lipsticks from Ilia Beauty with the owner and creator Sasha (I ended up buying Arabian Nights and Wild Child and my mom purchased Pink Kashmir), Getting my face spritzed with Vitamin D Facial Spray by Susanne from One Love Organics (which I then had to buy), Smelling oils from Olie Biologique (I purchased a travel size of the Huile Moderne Oil), Getting samples of Lurk natural perfumes, Being introduced to Dr. Alkaitis thanks to the amazing James Corbett who lit up the entire night with his presence. Seeing Megan, Susannah, and the lovely Shirley of W3LL People.

I also had the pleasure of meeting Mayna (Victoria’s sister) and talking about life. We bonded quickly after realizing that we both suffer from some of the same chronic health issues. She gave me great insight. She is a wonderful person and I am so happy to have met her. I also talked and bonded with with Danielle. What a sweetheart. I can’t wait to hangout with her more in the future! I seriously met so many incredible people that to talk about every one of them would be the longest post ever. I loved and was inspired by every single person I talked to.

Overall the entire night was such a fantastic experience. I did have moments of being star-struck but majority of the time I felt so comfortable with everyone I met and talked with. I felt a deep connection with so many people and it was so wonderful to have people come up to me and tell me they love my blog, it honestly made my night. I can’t thank La Bella Figura, James Corbett Studio and The Chalkboard Magazine for making this night possible. Also to everyone who came up to me and who I talked to for so long, what an amazing experience. It all seemed to go by way too fast! I was sad that I ended up missing some people and brands I wanted to meet but I am hoping there will be another event next year!! :)
