Botanical Me

I’m so excited to introduce you to two very inspirational sisters, Jill and Carly the founders of Botanical Me. Botanical Me is a collection of vibrant aromatherapy products inspired by the unique healing plants of Africa. This brand was born in 2012 out of an ephiphany from a conversation between Jill and her husband (a native of Nigeria and a Malaria survivor). That light bulb moment sparked her to team up with her sister, Carly.

They used their nine years of aromatherapy business experience to source, design and formulate the Botanical Me collection. The “botanical sisters” intention was to create a natural body care and aromatherapy company that would contribute part of their proceeds to support malaria prevention and treatment in Africa. They partnered with, Malaria No More. This organization supports prevention programs and treatments in communities. Jill and Carly want their donations to potentially save thousands of children’s lives and help with the education and ultimately the eradication of this devastating disease. The “Me” to the Botanical-me is short for Malaria Eradication!

Their motto is, “Natural body care that inspires, heals and gives back!”. I think this is some pretty admirable stuff! It is so incredible to me when a company can use their combined ingenuity to create a brand that not only give us clean and green beautiful beauty products, but that can turn their passion for helping into reality! Win and win, again!

Now on to the innovative products that are my favorites…

What’s on my Wishlist…

I’m back with my 6th wishlist! (Feel free to look back on my older wishlists! 12345.) This month’s wishlist has been inspired by many fellow bloggers. I haven’t done one in awhile because I like to really save the products that I truly am LUSTING over, not just wanting, because if I did it any other way it would be mile long! Most of these products have been on my radar for awhile now while a few others are new discoveries. Either way, I am coveting all of these. Why is it so exciting to discover new products? I love when I place an order and then my anticipation goes sky high waiting for the order to arrive…then unwrapping and opening the beautiful package. Best of all, trying out the new special creations! Who else is with me on this? How blessed are we to have all these choices?

  1. Balm Balm Frankincense Deep Cleansing Balm – I can’t get enough of cleansing balms. They are so lovely. I love to use them to remove makeup or to use as hydrating masks. I always look forward to using them at night as a part of my double-cleansing method. This balm was recommended by a fellow blogger, Fern & Moss, I saw her mention this a few times and I checked out the ingredients and was very impressed.
  2. Belle De Nuit Eye Mask – I have seen this mentioned lately on so many different sites. It seems incredibly relaxing and I could use all of the extra help I can get when it comes to a good nights sleep!
  3. Jade Facial Roller - Am I the only one that just thinks this seems like so much fun? I can just picture myself getting all relaxed before bed and bringing out this beautiful jade facial roller to use on my face and neck. It just seems so calming and decadent. Plus it has amazing reviews and is said to “rejuvenate face and neck skin”. We all want that!
  4. Inika Mineral Foundation – I am a huge mineral makeup fan. I seem to always revert back to applying minerals after using creams or liquids for awhile. I find they work with my skin the most naturally and are also the least reactive as they contain such simple ingredients. I’ve heard rave reviews about this particular mineral foundation and have been lusting after it for quite awhile now! It seems my color match would most likely be “Strength”, which by the way, makes me want it more. They have the best names for their colors. Love. Not to mention it’s an Australian company and I love, love, love Sydney!
  5. One Love Organics Cleansing Sponge – I won’t lie: I am attracted to cute packaging and this heart shape is no exception. The fact that it’s a heart is one thing and then knowing it’s made by OLO makes me want it even more. I know this baby would fit in perfectly with my products and look so cute doing it  :)
  6. ARCONA Gentle Solution – When I read this article interviewing Nicolle Mackinnon and Susannah Compton of No More Dirty Looks and read that Arcona Gentle Solution was the product that changed Nicole’s skin, I had to investigate. When I read the ingredients and saw that it’s specially formulated for sensitive skin, I knew I had to have it.
  7. Beauty Without Cruelty Concealer – I have just learned of this concealer thanks to this post by the lovely Annabel of Fragmented Splendour who also has this on her wishlist! What can I say? I want want want it. It seems so convenient to have a concealer in a pencil form like this, not only for travel but for on-the-go touch-ups and also to zero in at targeted areas. I love the simplicity of the ingredients and it has a crazy amount of amazing reviews
  8. Earth tu Face Cleanser – I first heard about this cleanser from one of my absolute favorite blogs out there, Free + Native. After I saw a few posts where this product was featured, I noticed more and more people were mentioning it and it peeked my curiosity. I am very impressed with the ingredients and am in need of a cleanser like this.
  9. Sunday Riley Juno Face Oil – This facial oil is described as “An enhancing, transformative lipid serum.” The beautiful Britta Aragon of CV Skinlabs mentioned this facial oil in my interview with her. That combined with the description of this oil as “obsession worthy glow” was enough to sell me on it! The ingredients sound so beautiful: Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Broccoli Oil, Carrot Oil, Chardonnay Grape Oil, Black Cumin, Cranberry Seed Oil, Berry Seed Blend (Blackberry, Blueberry, Raspberry). It says this oil is for all skin types including eczema prone.

Have you tried any of these products that I am lusting over? What is on YOUR wishlist? Share in the comments!!!

RMS Beauty Sublime Lip Shine

Processed with VSCOcam with c1 preset

RMS Beauty Sublime Lip Shine is my new favorite lip color for Summer! When I first spotted the fuchsia, hot pink color in the pot, my first thought was “there is no way I can pull off that strong color!”. It seemed so bold. Boy was I wrong!  It is incredibly flattering on all skin tones and it instantly brightens the complexion. If you are scared of it being too pink, don’t be! It’s very buildable. You can wear it sheer to create a slight baby pink color or add more layers to make it more pigmented. It never looks like too much product is on my lips no matter how many layers of this I apply and the best part is that IT IS SO MOISTURIZING. It feels like a lip balm + lip tint all in one. It also lasts throughout the entire day on me and I find that by the end of the day while some of the pigment may have lessened, the pink color still lasts and looks natural and beautiful on my lips. You could also wear this on your cheeks as well!

Ingredients: castor seed oil*, coconut oil*, moringa oil*, carnauba wax*, cocoa seed butter*, beeswax*, centella asiatica extract, rosemary extract*, vitamin e. may contain + / – : red iron oxide ci 77491, yellow iron oxide ci 77492, black iron oxide ci 77499, titanium dioxide ci 77891, mica ci 77019. *Certified Organic. This product is gluten-free.

Where to buy: I purchased my Lip Shine on Spirit Beauty Lounge for $25.00!

What do you think of this color? Have you tried any of the Lip Shines from RMS Beauty?

My Top Four: Favorite Affordable Facial Oils

To say that I am a lover of facial oils would be a drastic understatement. I truly adore my oils and although I have quite the collection, I still am always lusting after more. There is no such thing as too many oils! With that said, I have a large collection of oils that are more on the expensive side and I know that it’s not realistic for everyone to spend $50-$100 on a small bottle of oil every few months. I do think some oils are worth the extra money and if you are interested in knowing what my favorite less-affordable but brilliantly amazing facial oils are then I will definitely make a post on those!

I get asked a lot which oils are great for the face but will not cost an arm and a leg. I have compiled a list of these top four oils which are all easily available, affordable and incredibly effective. I also chose all of these oils because in my opinion they are the best for all skin types. This list is in no particular order of favorites!!

  1. Badger Damascus Rose Antioxidant Face Oil ($15.27) – This is the most expensive oil of the bunch (still affordable!) and most definitely the most delicious smelling and decadent as well. It smells like a flower garden and is incredibly relaxing. It always gives my skin a beautiful glow and is very moisturizing. It is highly absorbent, antioxidant-rich and contains healing oils like Jojoba, Baobab, Pomegranate and more! This face oil is ideal for dry, mature or combination skin, but can be used on all skin types.
  2. Acure Organics Argan Oil ($13.49) – Coined as “liquid gold”, this is by far the most effective and affordable Argan Oil out there. It is 100% organic, rich in Vitamin E, Essential Fatty Acids and is lightweight and easily absorbed! This oil is not only great for the face, but I also love to use it on my cuticles, hands, and hair!
  3. Sibu Beauty Seabuckthorn Oil ($9.98) – I don’t usually like to choose favorites but I have to say that this is definitely my favorite out of the bunch. In-fact, Seabuckthorn Oil (berry & seed) is now my every day staple. It keeps eczema at bay and reduces redness. Seabuckthorn Seed Oil has been long used as a topical treatment to aid relief of skin conditions like eczema, acne, rosacea, dermaitits, age spots, you name it! It is truly an incredibly healing oil that I can never be without. I have literally gone through five bottles of this oil because I use it day and night!
  4. Aura Cacia Jojoba Oil ($12.12) – Jojoba Oil is the first oil I recommend to anyone who is starting out in the world of facial oils. Why? because it is it is nearly identical in chemical structure to the natural oils in skin and hair, and therefor is easily absorbed without leaving a greasy residue. Here’s another interesting fact: Jojoba Oil is not actually an oil, but a wax :) It also seems to be the the oil that responds best with all skin types from dry to sensitive to oily or acne-prone. It’s a staple-oil that I think everyone should have in their home!

Have you tried any of these Facial Oils? What are YOUR favorite affordable oils?

Life & Blog Update!

ig1 copy

I apologize for the lack of updates on my blog lately. I have been working really hard at moving my blog over to a self-hosted site which is a lot more work than I had anticipated. I want to have more freedom with my blog which is what inspired me to do this move but I didn’t realize it would take me so long to get everything up and ready.

I am also working on setting up a space for recording YouTube videos on a regular basis. Between the blog changes and working on new things, I have also been struggling with my health more so than usual lately. I’ve been having a very difficult time and it has made everything that much harder for me to get finished! I am still motivated as ever though, to keep things growing and to keep progressing no matter what the situation. I am extremely resilient and thankful for that.

While I am working on blog changes, I would love to know what you would all like to see me post more about. Are you more interested in reviews, makeup looks, health-related posts, fashion, recipes, diy’s, etc? Please feel free to leave your feedback in the comments and let me know what you are the most interested in reading on my blog. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated as I want to produce more content that YOU want to see.

I promise regular blog updates will resume soon but in the mean time I am very active over on my instagram account: @beautybybritanie and update there almost every day. Please follow me there if you want to keep up with me and bare with me while I work on making my blog even better. I am not tech savvy and it’s not easy for me but I will get there!!

Thanks for your love, patience and support everyone. xoxo

Must-Have on-the-go accessory: Venus Snap with Embrace Razor

I was graciously sent the Venus Snap with Embrace Razor  for my review, opinion and recommendation about this new product. As you know I only endorse products that I like, use and would repurchase myself.

I created Beautybybritanie to be able to share my beauty routines as well as the products that I love, use and enjoy. I personally find it so helpful to read about innovative beauty tools that really work and make our “daily grooming and maintenance” routines a little easier and more enjoyable.

This small personal razor comes with a compact portable case and not only performs perfectly, but I love that I can easily travel with it! I’m always traveling back and forth between Massachusetts and Long Island, so because of the size and portability of this razor I never forget to pack it. It even fits in my purse.

What I love about this razor is that it has a mini handle so it’s very easy to hold. Plain water activates the built in moisture ribbon so I don’t use shaving cream with this. The Embrace has five blades with a pivoting head which makes it great for maneuvering around all the “delicate places”. It has refillable cartridges that can also fit in your other Gillette Venus  razors. I used to use disposable razors, but not anymore. Any small thing I can do to help the environment by not adding to the landfills is an improvement to me!

I love products that make sense and this one does. The Venus Snap with Embrace Razor is now part of my essential beauty travel kit!

Makeup Look: Gypsy Goddess

I recently came across this beautiful hair piece from asos that I had lost amongst my many hair accessories for quite some time. When I found it I felt really inspired to do a dramatic gypsy goddess look. Although it’s Spring here and bright lip colors are what’s “in”, I still like to rock a good dark lip every now and then!

Prep + Prime: Start by moisturizing the skin with a light but hydrating oil. I used Sibu Beauty SeabuckthornSeed Oil and added a light layer of Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Cream (review here) on top.

Correct + Conceal: To combat my stubborn dark circles I applied Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in “Like Porcelain” (review here) to the under eyes and on the eyelids to act as an eyeshadow primer. I also used the Kjaer Weis foundation as a concealer around any other areas that needed covering (ie: nose, chin). I blended everything out with a beauty blender.

Bronze + Illuminate: Who doesn’t want dewy skin? For an extra “glowy” look I dabbed RMS Beauty Living Luminizer (for those sensitive to coconut oil – I also use and love Ilia Beauty’s Polkadots & Moonbeams Illuminator) to the highest part of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid’s bow. To add some color to my cheeks I blended RMS Beauty Buruti Bronzer (again if sensitive to coconut oil, try Ilia’s Sway Bronzer) and Lip2Cheek in “Smile” to the apples of my cheeks.

Eyes: I started off by applying a light layer of Red Apple Lipstick Eyeshadow in “Porcelain” all over my lid and brow-bone. I then applied Alima Pure Eyeshadow in “Orchid” all over the lid, making sure not to go into the crease. For my crease color I used Red Apple Lipstick’s Pressed Eyeshadow in the color “Vamp”. I blended all three colors together and lined just the outer part of my eye with the Zuzu Luxe Liquid Eyeliner. To bring out the purple from the Alima Pure eyeshadow I applied two coats of Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara in “Aubergine” and added false lashes using EcoTools non-toxic glue.

Lips: I prepped my lips with Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lipbalm and added two layers of Ilia Beauty “Ink Pot” Lipstick. I used the actual lipstick to line my lips before coloring in.

What do you think of this look? Would you wear a dark lip color in Spring? Would you rock a hair piece like this!? Share your thoughts in the comments! xx

Embracing my face makeup-free and freckles galore!

photo 2(8)x copyx

Bare-Faced & Freckled (besides the lips & eyelashes, of course). I have started to really embrace not wearing any face makeup lately. I love makeup and I love colors but sometimes I think we all get too caught up in trying to “cover” so much of ourselves instead of focusing on enhancing and embracing. I used to wear full coverage foundation to cover my freckles because I hated them and now I honestly love them. They make me -me-. I am more focused on colors and things that bring light to my face, not cover it up. Of course I will still use foundation and concealer because lets face it, there’s almost always a time for it, but for the most part I am trying to let my skin be free of coverage.

Who else is with me on not trying to cover-up so much as enhance and embrace!?

Meet my new favorite day cream

When it comes to day creams and moisturizers I have had the hardest time finding “the one”. I don’t have an issue with nighttime moisturizing as I reserve most of my oils for nighttime. When it comes to day I prefer to wear a cream or moisturizer that will help my dry and sensitive and easily reactive skin, but not leave over a greasy residue. I also look for a cream without SPF. This might seem like a huge no-no to many of you but for me I prefer to use sunscreen in my mineral makeup or applied on top of my cream. I don’t want to HAVE to wear SPF as it tends to irritate my skin, even the natural ones. I prefer it when I can choose to use a sunscreen on it’s own or over top of a cream.

Next up is scent. Scent is a huge thing for me. I can’t handle overly scented products but I also really enjoy having some type of relaxing scent when I apply my cream… it’s more of a ritualistic thing for me.

Enter my new favorite day cream…

Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream

Yes, you read it correctly, VANILLA POD. When I first heard the name I wanted it (if you didn’t know already, I am a Vanilla addict) and then when I saw it contained Manuka Honey I was sold. Manuka Honey in a cream? without any stickiness? Brilliant.

I have been using this cream every single day and my skin is clearer, more hydrated and even glowing. I also sometimes add a little bit at nighttime if I feel I need added moisture after my oils. It sinks into the skin IMMEDIATELY. It almost gives a matte-look to the skin at first and then within a few minutes you’ll notice a glow to the cheeks. It wears beautifully underneath makeup. Also can I just say that the scent is perfection? If you are a vanilla fan you will love this, if you aren’t a vanilla fan I think you will still love this. It doesn’t have an overbearing vanilla scent. It has a subtle real vanilla scent with a hint of citrus to it. It’s divine to say the least.

Key Ingredients:

+ Manuka Honey acts as a healing, anti-wrinkle agent that has antibacterial prowess in addition to naturally astringent properties.

+ Rosehip Oil helps reduce the appearance of scars and wrinkles due to its naturally high concentrations of Vitamin A & C as well as essential fatty acids. Extracted from the seeds of the rosehip, this oil is a perfect skin moisturizer and conditioner. Moreover, it contains beta-carotene, which acts as an antioxidant in assisting the repair of parched and damaged skin.

+ Vinanza Grape’s many beauty benefits include assisting your skin with hydrating, smoothing and firming, as well as preventing moisture loss. Its plethora of other beauty benefits range from being an effective anti-wrinkle, healing and hydrating agent, to also showing antibacterial and astringent properties. Independent clinical trials have yielded truly extraordinary results in showing Vinanza Grape improving elasticity and firmness in the skin by 16%*.

+ Avocado Oil helps boost collagen and prevent premature aging. Nutrient rich. Delivers the benefits of everyday nutrients to your skin with potent levels of Vitamins A, B1, B2 and D, as well as Omegas 3 and 9.

Have you ever tried the Vanilla Pod Hydrating Cream or anything else from Antipodes? Share your thoughts in the comments! Let me know what YOUR favorite day cream is!

You can purchase the Vanilla Pod Hydrating Cream here or here or directly on the Antipodes website.

Interview with Dr. Sarah Villafranco of Osmia Organics

I hope you’re all enjoying my in-depth interviews with some of the most important and inspiring women in the green beauty industry as much as I am!

I get so excited to learn the why and how they began their personal journey to create and turn their ideas into thriving business ventures.

I’m going to go ahead and say it, these women that I interview really embody the definition of Superwomen. Sarah Villafranco fits the the description perfectly.”A woman with exceptional strength or ability, especially one who successfully manages a home, brings up children, and has a full-time job”.

Sarah was one of the first people to send me some of her incredible products to review. I’ll never forget how excited I was when I received her package in the mail. The first thing that impressed me was how beautiful the products looked not to mention the love I felt from the hand written personal note she included. Then of course the products performing at the one hundred percent level solidified it for me. The rest is history as they say. I’m an Osmia Girl for life, that’s for sure. I love every single product I’ve tried from her line. Sara’s love and creativity are apparent and literally felt from each soap, lotion, oil and each item she created from Osmia.

I can’t wait to someday stop by the Osmia Organics studio in Carbondale, CO, for tour and a real face to face visit with Sarah. I also can’t wait to see her at the next ‘A Night For Green Beauty’ Event in LA in August 2014!

It’s with so much respect and humble gratitude I introduce you to, the wonderful Sarah Villafranco~

1.) What event or moment made you first realize that you wanted to create Osmia Organics? Was it a “moment” you had? Or an innate feeling you had forever that lead you to this specialized artisan industry?

I think it was when I took my first soap making class.  The second I saw soap being born, I began obsessing over making it myself.  I have always been fascinated with chemistry, and combining it with luxury skin care and the therapeutic effects of pure essential oils is my fantasy job!  Now, the business provides multiple channels though which I hope to educate and encourage people about healthy living, non-toxic skin care, and environmental responsibility – in a sense, I’m practicing the medicine I always wanted to practice.

2.) We all have to know; what does your daily beauty ritual consist of? Please do tell! Include all products…

I wash my face with Black Clay Facial Soap  – it seems to keep my perioral dermatitis symptoms at bay. I wash my hair with an SLS-free shampoo (I like the Broo and Desert Essence lines for my thick, crazy hair).  I use either the Detox or Protein Exfoliating Mask once a week.  In between, I use our Luz Facial Smoothing Powder (for Spring release) if I need a quick little polish – and, it’s great for the lips.  Out of the shower, I use our Active Gel Toner, followed by the Purely Simple Face Cream.  For the body, I follow with whichever oil I’ve picked from our collection, and slather it on when my skin is still sopping wet.  I usually finish with Honey Myrrh Lip Repair.  As for “styling”, I sleep on my wet hair, wake up with what my daughters call Wild-Woman-Hair, and hope it settles into Loosely-Tousled-Hippie-Girl-Hair by the time I leave the house.  I am not much of a makeup user.  I have never worn foundation, and I wear eye makeup about once a month.  I almost always wear one of our lip glosses (Whisper lately), and I whip out the eyelash curler when I want to feel super fancy.

3.) If I were to unbeknownst to you, follow you for a day, what would a typical daily schedule look like? Example: what time do you wake? What are your go to meals? Exercise of choice?

I’m up by about 6:45, no alarm needed (unless you count the adorable 7 and 10 year old alarms that live with me).  If I’m taking the girls to school, we leave the house by 7:45.  I usually manage 2 pieces of GF toast and a cup of Earl Grey tea with almond milk most mornings.  I drop them and try to fit in a workout before going to the store.  Typical workout?  Run, either on the bike path or hiking trails, for about 60-80 minutes. Sometimes I sprinkle 100 burpees through the workout – they make you feel so strong!  In our short but gorgeous summer, I ride my road bike 25-30 miles in the mountains – the incredible scenery takes my mind off my exploding lungs.  I shoot for outdoor exercise whenever possible, but if I have a super busy day ahead, I hit the treadmill, bike, or yoga mat before I leave the house.   This is my sanity – I almost never sacrifice a workout.

Then, I’m at OO for the rest of the day – answering emails, helping customers in the shop, trying to keep up with phone calls and social media, planning our expansion, strategizing with the team about OO’s growth and future plans. I don’t really stop for lunch – a habit from the ER.  I just graze and snack all day on nuts, fruit, energy bars, etc.  Home by 6-6:30 most nights, where my amazing husband (who is a full-time lawyer) can often be found stirring a delicious vegetarian concoction on the stove.  I have a meal with him while we catch up on our day, then I head down to read stories with the girls (usually in 13 different accents). I tuck them in around 8, then work a couple hours on the computer, trying to get on top of my inbox.  (I never do).  I try to get to bed by 11, and I’m working on making it earlier – we all need more beauty sleep!

4.) What/Who inspires you to keep going and to innovate such creative products?

Sometimes I create products to address certain skin concerns or issues.  Sometimes I’m grabbed by a scent in nature – I stand and close my eyes and try to compose a perfume in my mind while I’m surrounded by its inspiration (like Juniper Fire and Prima).  And, sometimes it’s just the ingredients themselves; working with such beautiful materials is like being an artist surrounded by fresh tubes of paint – you just can’t help yourself.

5.) What is a perfect day for you? You have a day all to yourself, what would you do? You have a day with your family how would you spend it?

Hmmm. A day all to myself?  First, I would drink my tea and get outside to exercise.  Then I’d crank music at Osmia, and tinker at my perfume table all day.  In the evening, I’d make myself a giant salad and pour a glass of wine, and then snuggle with my puppies and watch Jimmy Fallon.

With the family, I’d start the same way, but add a hike with the girls, taking an annoying number of pictures of them and the dogs, cook with my hubbie, read books with everyone, and maybe have an impromptu dance party.

In general, I try to fit as many pieces of my Perfect Day in to my Every Day as possible.

6.) What is your favorite Osmia Organics product and why?

Oh, now, that’s just not a fair question and you know it.  But, for today, I’ll say our Body Oils.  They have replaced lotion (often loaded with chemicals and preservatives) for most of our customers.  They comprise 11 antioxidant, skin-rejuvenating, botanical oils.  There is a scent for every mood – essential oil blends that can take you to wonderful places.  And they leave you feeling velvety and pampered.

7.) What image or feeling do you hope people will affiliate with Osmia Organics?

Nurturing yourself and the Earth, really.  You owe it to yourself to be happy and healthy in this life.  And you owe it to the planet to care about your impact while you’re here.

8.) What do you see as well as hope for the future growth of your incredible coveted brand?

I want to grow at a pace we can barely keep up with, but stay in control of the choices we make as a company.  I’m not out to make the most money possible in the shortest time possible.  I want to DO this for a living.  I want to make gorgeous products without harmful ingredients. I want to give great jobs to great people.  I want our brand to represent a beautifully-lived, cherished, healthy life.  And I want to inspire our customers to slow down, nourish themselves, notice the world around them, and squeeze every drop of joy out of their lives.

XO to you (and all green beauty bloggers) – you do such a wonderful job at educating people, and helping them become informed (and wonderful smelling) consumers!

Thank you so much Sarah for allowing me to interview you!!

Have you ever tried any of Sarah’s products? Did this interview inspire you as much as it did me??! Share your thoughts in the comments section!
