Meet my new favorite day cream

antii2

When it comes to day creams and moisturizers I have had the hardest time finding “the one”. I don’t have an issue with nighttime moisturizing as I reserve most of my oils for nighttime. When it comes to day I prefer to wear a cream or moisturizer that will help my dry and sensitive and easily reactive skin, but not leave over a greasy residue. I also look for a cream without SPF. This might seem like a huge no-no to many of you but for me I prefer to use sunscreen in my mineral makeup or applied on top of my cream. I don’t want to HAVE to wear SPF as it tends to irritate my skin, even the natural ones. I prefer it when I can choose to use a sunscreen on it’s own or over top of a cream.

Next up is scent. Scent is a huge thing for me. I can’t handle overly scented products but I also really enjoy having some type of relaxing scent when I apply my cream… it’s more of a ritualistic thing for me.

Enter my new favorite day cream…

Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Day Cream

Yes, you read it correctly, VANILLA POD. When I first heard the name I wanted it (if you didn’t know already, I am a Vanilla addict) and then when I saw it contained Manuka Honey I was sold. Manuka Honey in a cream? without any stickiness? Brilliant.

I have been using this cream every single day and my skin is clearer, more hydrated and even glowing. I also sometimes add a little bit at nighttime if I feel I need added moisture after my oils. It sinks into the skin IMMEDIATELY. It almost gives a matte-look to the skin at first and then within a few minutes you’ll notice a glow to the cheeks. It wears beautifully underneath makeup. Also can I just say that the scent is perfection? If you are a vanilla fan you will love this, if you aren’t a vanilla fan I think you will still love this. It doesn’t have an overbearing vanilla scent. It has a subtle real vanilla scent with a hint of citrus to it. It’s divine to say the least.

  1. Sounds like you found your match! Have you tried the velvet cream by Pollen and Wax? I believe it also has manuka. Any vanilla fragrances that you’d recommend? Essential oils are great and all, but sometimes you just want something a little more special 🙂

  2. I am a vanilla addict as well! Great post, I’m up to my elbows in amazing oils, but still struggle to find a day cream that really works for me!

  3. I tried this on my hand in the health food store the other week- felt and smelt amazing. Didn’t purchase because I’m not sure it would be suited to my skin type…I’m not really oily but nor am I dry, and I’m quite acne prone (reduced dramatically since I changed my diet though). So I’m not sure.. shea butter is high on the inci list.I know they do the ‘rejoice’ version for combo skins but I noticed there is wheat in the inci list and I have a food allergy to wheat. I don’t know if that means it’s not good to put it on the skin or whether it won’t make any difference?

    1. Hey 🙂 The Vanilla cream doesn’t have wheat in it. where did you see that? I am gluten sensitive so I try to avoid gluten in products. Antipodes does make products that contain wheat ingredients but i did not see any in the day cream. I think the cream would actually work for oily skin types though of course every skin type is different and reacts different to oils!

      1. Thanks for replying! The Vanilla one doesn’t contain wheat, but their other cream called ‘Rejoice light facial day cream’ – which is for combination skins does contain wheat, so I guess I will try the Vanilla one, plus manuka honey is such a amazing ingredient. Have you tried the Aura mask? It’s my favourite.

    2. Jen,

Care to share where you’re located? I’d really like to try this product in person but it seems they only stock it in Australia?

  4. Great review! I haven’t tried this particular product but I have used their Avocado & Pear night cream which sounds similar in effectiveness as the Vanilla Pod. My mother loved it too! Another Antipodes product I can recommend is their Heavenly Body Oil which I’m currently using and it’s a truly lovely product. Sinks in quickly and leaves your skin soft, smooth and most importantly non-sticky! Antipodes has some really great products! Xx

  5. Their Divine face oil is, well, divine! I have been using it for a few months now and love it, I’m already on my second bottle. I use their nightcream too (that looks just like this jar) but it smells a little weird to me. I’m probably going to give this one a go too 🙂

    1. I’ve heard wonderful things about the divine oil! The night cream has a strong scent of sandalwood which I would imagine would be off putting to some although I actually like it but no nearly as much as the day cream!

  6. Just found your blog by chance just now. Couldn’t help but leave a comment about this cream. This cream is a saviour for my problem skin, has really helped me out and I noticed a difference with my breakouts as they are just much much less since I started using it. I also use pure manuka honey as a mask every few days but having it in a cream is a dream. Many fear shea butter in this cream can break you out but I read a lot of other reviews and everybody says it’s a complete opposite. This day cream is a keeper! x
