*CONRGRATS TO THE WINNER: Comment #18, Sophia!!!*

To help you get ready for the busy Holiday Season, I have picked a few of “the things I’m loving lately…”

I adore the Holidays. The feeling of being and celebrating with the people I love the most is indefinable. I also make sure to take extra special care of myself. With all the fun and special events, I know that I must keep my self nurturing routines at the forefront to keep me feeling healthy and balanced. In addition to my daily yoga practice what works for me is meditation, reading, writing, focusing on gratitude, and of course self pampering with natural and organic foods, beauty, & health products.

Let me introduce you to what I’ve been loving lately (and what you will win).

  1. A copy of one of my favorite reads. “Living Green A Practical Guide To Simple Sustainability”, by Greg Horn. What I love about this book is it guides you with simple steps to create a healthier and more fulfilling home and family environment. My favorite is Chapter 2: Sustaining Health from the Inside.
  2. Alba Botanica Good & Healthy Anti-Oil Weightless Face Moisturizer. “Your Power-Packed Skin Smoothie”. This instantly absorbed & water based milky moisturizer is loaded with vitamins and phytonutrients from Kale, Spinach, and Swiss Chard. I love this hypo-allergenic lightweight boost for my face and neck. With my sensitive skin I have to be really careful what I use to moisturize and my skin has adjusted very nicely!
  3. Yarok Feed Your Ends. Leave-In Conditioner for Hair. “Food for your Head. Good for the Earth.”
I’m a huge fan of all the Yarok products. So far everything I’ve tried has made my hair feel so healthy and nourished. This leave-in conditioner is packed with vitamins, minerals and essential oils that protect your ends from blow drying or heat styling. Yarok also helps supports efforts to protect the Amazon Rainforest.
  4. Alba Botanica Hawaiian Body Cream. Kukui Nut Deep Moisturizing hypo-allergenic grand-luxe cream. Apply liberally to entire body, especially elbows and heels. Love this product so much. The Kukui nut is so moisturizing as well as nourishing for Autumn’s change in temperature. Chock full of the richest ingredients and the scent smells delicious.
  5. Alba Botanica Good & Clean. Fruit acid detox infusion. Daily detox foaming cleanser. Formulated for sensitive skin. I really love this product. The rich lathering cream breaks up oil and deep-set impurities. Hypo-allergenic and non-comedogenic too. Powered by ten AHA-rich botanicals and partners with Green Tea and Rice in this detoxification and soothing refreshment.
  6. Pura Naturals Soap-Infused Sponge. Peppermint Volcano. I really love this take-anywhere sponge infused with biodegradable, vegan, and gluten-free soap! Activated with water for a robust lather. Comes in a three-pack which is really economical. Simply add water and squeeze multiple times. This sponge is infused with ground pumice and invigorating peppermint oil .Each Pura Naturals soap sponge is infused with plant-based cleansers and botanicals that are biodegradable. Not only are they great for our bodies, but also for the environment! The open-cell foam design exfoliates without the use of synthetic micro-beads and other harmful elements. They are available in: Active Charcoal, Eucalyptus Breeze, Lavender Mist (my favorite) and Citrus Splash and they even come unscented for sensitive skin.
  7. Portland Bee Balm. Unscented. I love love love this lip balm! Handmade in Portland, Oregon by beekeepers Brad & Anica. Their motto: Simple. Honest. Natural.
Supporting Local Bees & Their Keepers. The ingredients are simply: Local Oregon beeswax, organic cold pressed extra virgin coconut oil, organic California extra virgin olive oil, organic Oregon peppermint essential oil. *This last ingredient is not included in the unscented version. This is the smoothest gliding, richest formula, best smelling (I personally love peppermint), lip balm and I find myself admittedly addicted! I’m also a proud fan of supporting such a sustainably minded family company. Their displays are made by a Portland Woodworker, the ink is soy-based and they don’t use paper for the labels. Instead they chose non-pulped wood designed by local artists. They do so much to support other local small businesses! This is a super company and what a perfect example they are for ethical and sustainable business practices.
  8. Beautifly Pure Facial Soap. Rose Clay & Oatmeal. This wonderful family owned small business was established in March of this year. Azalia and Tim Canan parents of three young children came up with the idea of making their own natural soap after two of their children suffered from eczema. They realized it was hard to find products that wouldn’t irritate their children’s sensitive skin. The Rose Clay & Oatmeal soap has these ingredients: Olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil, distilled water, coconut milk, sodium hydroxide, mango butter, grapefruit & orange essential oils, oatmeal, rose clay and kaolin clay. Their products are handmade in small batches, are vegan & cruelty free and they have an impressive line of natural soap, facial soap, lotion bars, 100% natural hair serum and natural sugar scrubs. As I’ve said before, I love to support family owned and operated companies and Beautifly Pure is a great one.
  9. Organic India Tulsi Holy Basil Tea: (2) Honey Chamomile & (2) Vanilla Creme. Love these Caffeine Free and Certified Organic teas! Tulsi is considered “The Queen of Herbs” and is revered as a sacred plant infused with power. It possesses wonderful health benefits that support the body’s natural immune system while relieves the body’s negative reaction to stress. I find it mildly relaxes me and I have this tea daily. I’m a huge fan of the Rose and Jasmine flavors as well.
  10. Pacifica French Lilac Solid Perfume. Pacifica has some of my favorite scents. This particular blend was perfumed in a traditional French style, fresh with a blend of Lilac, Magnolia Leaves, Heliotrope, Ylang Ylang, Hyacinth and subtle notes of Nectarine. In a base of all natural coconut and soy wax. 100% Vegan, too! And “yes”, I know it’s Autumn, but I still love to occasionally wear light floral luscious scents in the daytime.

So how do you win?

*Tell me in the comment section how you keep yourself balanced and healthy in this upcoming Holiday season. Any “extra” efforts or secrets that you want to share?

*Then Like the following on FB & IG

Blessings to each one of you and take extra care of yourself with these gifts!

XO Good Luck Everyone

Makeup Look: Gypsy Goddess

I recently came across this beautiful hair piece from asos that I had lost amongst my many hair accessories for quite some time. When I found it I felt really inspired to do a dramatic gypsy goddess look. Although it’s Spring here and bright lip colors are what’s “in”, I still like to rock a good dark lip every now and then!

Prep + Prime: Start by moisturizing the skin with a light but hydrating oil. I used Sibu Beauty SeabuckthornSeed Oil and added a light layer of Antipodes Vanilla Pod Hydrating Cream (review here) on top.

Correct + Conceal: To combat my stubborn dark circles I applied Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation in “Like Porcelain” (review here) to the under eyes and on the eyelids to act as an eyeshadow primer. I also used the Kjaer Weis foundation as a concealer around any other areas that needed covering (ie: nose, chin). I blended everything out with a beauty blender.

Bronze + Illuminate: Who doesn’t want dewy skin? For an extra “glowy” look I dabbed RMS Beauty Living Luminizer (for those sensitive to coconut oil – I also use and love Ilia Beauty’s Polkadots & Moonbeams Illuminator) to the highest part of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid’s bow. To add some color to my cheeks I blended RMS Beauty Buruti Bronzer (again if sensitive to coconut oil, try Ilia’s Sway Bronzer) and Lip2Cheek in “Smile” to the apples of my cheeks.

Eyes: I started off by applying a light layer of Red Apple Lipstick Eyeshadow in “Porcelain” all over my lid and brow-bone. I then applied Alima Pure Eyeshadow in “Orchid” all over the lid, making sure not to go into the crease. For my crease color I used Red Apple Lipstick’s Pressed Eyeshadow in the color “Vamp”. I blended all three colors together and lined just the outer part of my eye with the Zuzu Luxe Liquid Eyeliner. To bring out the purple from the Alima Pure eyeshadow I applied two coats of Dr. Hauschka Volume Mascara in “Aubergine” and added false lashes using EcoTools non-toxic glue.

Lips: I prepped my lips with Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lipbalm and added two layers of Ilia Beauty “Ink Pot” Lipstick. I used the actual lipstick to line my lips before coloring in.

What do you think of this look? Would you wear a dark lip color in Spring? Would you rock a hair piece like this!? Share your thoughts in the comments! xx

Look Of The Day | Burgundy Bohemian

I’ve said it a million times before and I will say it a million times again: Fall is my favorite season. I love to change up the colors I wear and darker lips are definitely in right now. I came up with this really easy vampy look using only a handful of beauty products, a hat and some handmade lotus jewelry. This look is very relaxed (yet glamorous) and easy to achieve. Perfect for day or night. I am really pleased with how it turned out. I hope you all enjoy it! I love darker lips for Fall and have my eye on the limited release of Diabolique from RMS Beauty. I also really want to try Ink Pot from Ilia Beauty. You can’t go wrong with Purple’s and Red’s in Fall!

How can you not absolutely love Fall? The leaves, the colors, the feeling in the air…. It’s just perfect.

What I Used For This Look:

Jane Iredale Dream Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF15

I love this tinted moisturizer because it sinks into the skin fast and doesn’t leave over any white cast. It also has just enough coverage.

W3LL People Narcissist Foundation + Concealer Stick

I used this as a concealer under my eyes on redness around my nose.

W3LL People Universalist Stick in “Creamy Peony”

Used on the apples of my cheeks. This is such a flattering shade for any skin tone. Adds the perfect amount of flush to the cheeks.

RMS Beauty Cream Shadows in “Seduce” and “Magnetic”

I used Seduce (an earthy brown) all over the lid and up to the browbone and blended out. I then added Magnetic (a taupe/silver shadow with a hint of mauve) on the inner part of my lid and to the outer crease. I like to apply these cream shadows with my fingers first and then lightly blend with a fluffy brush.

RMS Beauty Living Luminizer

I keep finding more uses for this product. For this look I used Living Luminizer in the inner corners of both eyes and right underneath my browbone. I also added a tiny bit down the bridge of my nose and at the highest part of my cheeks to add a beautiful glow.

MAC Brow Set in Show-Off

Definitely -not- natural in any way but a very good eyebrow product. This is a gel that is easy to brush on and literally makes your eyebrows stay in place all day. I have yet to find a natural dupe for this or for Anastasia Brow products but am on the hunt!

Burt’s Bees Lipgloss in “Starry Night”

I am very much impressed with these lipglosses. This color is so gorgeous, especially for Fall. It has subtle shimmer and is very build-able.

What do you think of this look? Are you a fan of darker shades of Lipstick? What looks are you loving for Fall?

DIY | Dry Shampoo + Volumizing Hair Powder

It’s is best not to wash your hair too often so that your scalp can restore it’s natural balance and produce the perfect amount of sebum for healthy hair. Twice a week is my goal. Between washes I like to use something to keep oily roots at bay and also to give my hair some added lift and volume!

I am actually in the process of creating a small line of products which I can’t get into too much detail about just yet because it’s still in the beginning stages (if you follow me on instagram you have probably seen some teaser photos + videos) but I have some haircare items I have concocted recently. In the process of creating I came up with this really easy to make dry shampoo and volumizing powder (it really does add instant lift to your roots!).

My Mom has been using this powder for the past few weeks and told me her “hair has never looked or smelled better!” and that is coming from someone who is really picky about her haircare products and who tends to have limp and hard-to-volumize hair! After seeing her results and mine I knew I had to share this simple and effective recipe with you all.

I have purchased dry shampoo’s in the past and liked them all but I actually prefer this recipe I created myself. You can tweak the ingredients based on your preference for scents and such but for this recipe I will be using the following ingredients:

  • Arrowroot Powder

Is the perfect base for any dry shampoo and does wonders at soaking up excess oils from the roots.

  • Raw Cacao Powder

Not only does cacao smell absolutely wonderful, it works very well for brunettes because it doesn’t leave any streaks. It also is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals which are great for the scalp and hair.

  • White Kaolin Clay

Kaolin Clay is rich in silica and can also detoxify hair along with restoring moisture to dry and brittle hair. The clay will also help to get rid of excess oils.

  • Lavender Essential Oil

Not only is the scent of Lavender instantly relaxing and intoxicating but it’s actually great for the hair and helps to promote a healthy scalp.

*You can purchase most of these ingredients at your local health food store or on my favorite bulk-ingredient site Mountain Rose Herbs.*

Mix together all ingredients in a bowl until completely blended. This is the finished result:

Notes & Ingredient Substitutes:

  • I use one tablespoon of each powder and 5 drops of Lavender EO.
  • Instead of Arrowroot powder you can use Cornstarch and/or Orris Root Powder.
  • Instead of Raw Cacao you can use Cocoa Powder. If you don’t have light to medium brown hair skip the cacao powder altogether and use yellow cornstarch or extra Arrowroot Powder.
  • You can use any essential oil of your choice. Lavender is my favorite because it’s calming and smells delicious. Other great EO’s for this mixture would be: Sage, Jasmine, Ylang Ylang, Rosemary, Sandalwood, Neroli, Peppermint.

How To Apply The Powder:

  • To apply this powder I use a foundation brush. It helps to evenly distribute the powder to the roots. I dip the brush in the mixture and apply to sections of my hair (focusing on the roots). I then leave the mixture on my head for a few minutes. I start to massage the mixture into my hair as you would with any regular liquid shampoo. Last but not least; Stand over the bathtub or go outside and flip your head down, comb through your hair with your fingers and gently shake off any remaining powder. Flip your hair back up, brush through and you’ll see that your hair is thicker and your roots should no longer be oily (if they were before). Your hair will smell like a field of Lavender Flowers!

If you end up making this mixture PLEASE let me know how you like it. With the Holidays not too far around the corner, this would be a wonderful gift to give to loved ones! I would love your input :)

Face Of The Day | Bronzed Bohemian-Inspired Look

I did my weekly coconut oil hair treatment the night before these photographs were taken (hence the oil in my hair) but call me crazy – I actually kind of like the somewhat messy and shiny (okay, oily) hair for this bohemian-inspired makeup look. I really have been obsessed with bronze makeup lately. I love the dimension it adds to my eyes and I really love how adding bronze to my face brings out my freckles and makes me look extra sun-kissed!

This makeup look was extremely easy to achieve. Recently Rose-Marie Swift, the creator and makeup artist behind RMS Beauty gave me a tip that I have been using a lot lately. She told me to take the eye shadow farther up the lid .. over the brow bone” which will make the eyes look more contoured and beautiful when the light hits it, especially with all the different colors in the cream shadows. I was a little worried about doing this, especially with a darker bronze color but honestly, I LOVE the effect this gives. I especially enjoy doing this with the shade “Seduce”. I also opted to not use regular pencil or liquid eyeliner and to instead use a cream shadow to add depth to my upper and lower lashline which appears much more natural. This is great for those with smaller eyes.

(click on image to view larger)

How to get this look & Products Used:

Apply with fingers under eyes, around nose and any other areas that need coverage.

Apply a dab of this beautiful and universally flattering shade to the cheeks (and lips if desired!)

Apply “Seduce” all over the lid, over the browbone and blend blend blend. Line upper and lower lashine with “Karma” to add depth to the lashline.

Apply to inner corner of eyes and browbone for a natural and luminious highlight.

Apply this incredibly pigmented bronze shadow over “Seduce” (no higher than the lid)

Apply two coats of this mascara which smells like a field of lavenders!

Apply this beautifully moisturizing sheer rich red to the lips to make this look really pop!

What do you think of this look? How do you feel about blending shadows so far up? Would you wear this look out? Please share your thoughts in the comments!

Outfit Of The Day | ♡ Spring is in the air and Butterflies are in my hair.

Today was absolutely gorgeous outside. I love the bright colors that Spring brings along. The flowers are all in bloom and the cold weather is finally gone. I was inspired to put this outfit together after receiving a few beautiful head pieces from Roses and Lemons. The lovely owner, Cecil Marie, specifically made this beautiful Butterfly hair piece for me and I am so in love with it. I love butterflies and the colors are so perfect for Spring. I combined the colorful hair piece with a beautiful eco-friendly purple agate pendant with vintage rhinestone brooch necklace by The Hemp Butterfly which just added more beautiful pops of colors to this look. Both of these pieces are handmade and you can find them on Etsy(info will be linked below). I think they blended so perfectly together :) I decided to go light with my makeup since the majority of the color is in my outfit but I opted for a bright pink lipbalm that I think complimented the colors very well!

Look of The Day | Hair Sticks, Upcycled Jewelry and Mineral Makeup

I have really been looking forward to doing an entire look incorporting all of the beautiful pieces I received from Heather of BluKatDesign on Etsy. Her pieces are unique and upcycled and I wore her earrings in a past blog post. I was especially excited to use her hair sticks! I had never used hair sticks before these and I had so much fun with these different hair styles.

I also am trying out some new mineral makeup from Purely You Minerals and decided to wear only their products in these photos. So far I absolutely -love- everything I have tried and will have a review soon.

If you want to know exactly what I am wearing on my face or where to buy these amazing jewelry pieces and hair sticks, I will have it mentioned at the bottom of this post!!

Onto the hair sticks…

these are so much fun to play around with and so delicate and simple to spice up any outfit.

^ The first style I did with the hair sticks is a messy bun that I really liked and was super easy to do.

^ The second look I titled “cascading waterfall bun” because the way my hair cascades down reminded me of a waterfall.

^ the last look was just a very easy and messy semi-bun! I love how hair sticks make any hair style look prettier.

Enjoying a cup of Organic Assam Tea while I edited this post.

Review | Badger Seabuckthorn Apricot and Pomegranate Antioxidant Hair Oil

I mentioned this hair oil in my latest Current Haircare Routine blog post. I received some messages regarding the oil (how I use it, how it works for my hair, etc). I have used other oils in my hair before like Argan Oil, Coconut Oil and Jojoba Oil. I love to use all three of those oils to deep-condition my hair but was interested to try Seabuckthorn Oil.

The Ingredients are quite impressive:

Ingredients: *Simmondsia Chinensis (Organic Jojoba) Oil, *Helianthus Annuus (Organic Sunflower) Oil, *Prunus Armeniaca (Organic Apricot) Oil, *Punica Granatum (Organic Pomegranate) Oil, CO2 Extracts of *Hippophae Rhamnoides (Organic Seabuckthorn) and *Rosa Canina (Organic Rosehip), Essential Oils of *Lavandula Angustifolia (Organic Lavender), *Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Organic Sweet Orange), *Pelargonium Graveolens (Organic Rose Geranium), and Tocopherol (Sunflower Vitamin E). * = Certified Organic

IMG_0208 copy

  • Seabuckthorn Oil protects cells from oxidative damage and aids in collagen production (rich in Vitamins A, B, C, E, & K).
  • Apricot Oil easily penetrates the hair cuticle, delivering nutrition to dry and damaged hair (rich in Vitamins A, C, & E).
  • Pomegranate Oil contains high levels of antioxidants, and also promotes regeneration and strengthening of hair (rich in Vitamins B and C).

Description: Treat your hair to vitamin and antioxidant-rich oils and extracts, and watch the shine and luster return to overworked hair. We’ve selected our most powerful oils to deliver naturally occurring vitamins A, B, C, E, and K to nourish and replenish hair. Seabuckthorn and Pomegranate promote hair strength and elasticity, and Apricot is a potent emollient, imparting moisture and shine. Rosehip possesses regenerative properties, helping hair to return to its healthiest state.

Directions for use:
Step 1: Apply oil evenly to clean, dry hair. Amount will vary depending on hair type and length.
Step 2: Massage oil into hair and scalp. Work from the roots to the tips. Use a comb or your fingers to ensure even distribution.
Step 3: Allow oil to soak into hair for 1 hour or overnight. (Tip: use an old towel to protect your linens.)
Step 4: Shampoo and condition, then style as usual.

My Thoughts: I was particularly tempted to try out the Badger Seabuckthorn Hair Oil after reading many reviews on it. I have been a big fan of Badger ‘s products for years now and think they are one of the most trustworthy and clean brands out there today. I also think their products are very affordable and easily accessible which is always a bonus. I have tried many of their skincare products but never their haircare products so I was excited to try a sample size of this oil. I wanted to use this oil enough times before giving my full and honest opinions on the results and I have been consistently using it for more than a month now. I like to use this oil once a week for the perfect deep-treatment for my hair. I will either leave it on for a few hours or overnight and after washing the oil out and drying my hair, it instantly has a beautiful sheen to it. My hair has also been way softer than usual and just looks healthier. This oil is by far my newest favorite to use!

Over all I think this hair oil is a must have for anyone who is interested in treating their luscious locks to some good and clean hair-loving oils! Also due to the delicious scents in this oil it’s also a wonderful nighttime aromatherapy for the senses!
