Face Of The Day | Natural Everyday Makeup

Untitled-1look copy

It’s no secret that I love makeup. What many don’t know is that on an every day basis I usually wear little to no makeup. I like to stick with Tinted Moisturizers especially in the winter months when my skin is extra dry and could use more moisture. This one from Josie Maran Cosmetics has been a favorite of mine for over a year now. It’s super hydrating and gives just the right amount of coverage without ever feeling too heavy. Full review to come soon.

I also don’t like to cover up every imperfection as I think it’s good to let your freckles and smile lines show through! We all have imperfections but there is no need to hide all of them! Don’t be afraid to go lighter on the makeup to showcase your natural beauty :)

With that said, I still like to add some coverage to even out my skin tone and to highlight specific areas on my face. A little bit of makeup can make you look instantly more awake and healthy! This has been my routine lately but I like to switch up what I am using every now and then to test out other products!

Makeup Used:

mu

  1. Josie Maran Tinted Moisturizer in “Creme”
  2. Josie Maran Argan Illuminizer (mixed in with the tinted moisturizer for an added glow)
  3. Josie Maran Argan Color Stick in “Rosey” (used on cheeks and lips)
  4. Tarte Maracuja Concealer in “Light”
  5. Tarte Smooth Operator Powder
  6. RMS Beauty Cream Shadow in “Magnetic”
  7. Josie Maran Argan Triple Volume Mascara
  8. NYX Brow Pencil and Highlighter

Aquarian Bath | Cinnamon Stick Tooth Powder for Cleaner, Whiter Teeth!

il_fullxfull.187243467

You might think the idea of cleaning your teeth without using toothpaste sounds strange but in fact it’s quite amazing and so much healthier for you and your teeth!

Many natural toothpastes can often throw in a few not-so-great ingredients in them and many contain Baking Soda which is fine in small quantities but when used too much or too often it can wear the enamel off of your teeth. All of the Tooth Powders from Aquarian Bath contain no baking soda.

I have been using the Cinnamon Stick Tooth Powder by Aquarian Bath (you can also find them on Etsy) for over a few weeks in place of my usual Tom’s of Maine toothpaste. If you are looking for an all natural, completely clean, affordable and non-abrasive tooth powder then definitely check out this powder. Since using this powder in such a short time I have noticed that my teeth are whiter and less sensitive and I also feel like this powder cleans better than any toothpaste I have ever tried (chemical-filled or not). It doesn’t irritate my gums like many toothpastes tend to do and I never experience tooth sensitivity anymore which I used to quite a bit, especially when drinking cold or hot drinks. I am proud to say that I am now a tooth powder convert!

This tooth powder is pretty much the most natural way you could clean your teeth but when used regularly you will see how these few (and incredibly potent) ingredients will help to not only whiten your teeth but heal gums and fight any bacteria or bath breath. It also leaves your teeth looking and feeling smoother and healthier within just a few uses.

***

Let’s take a look at the ingredients and the benefits of each:

Ingredients: Bentotine Clay, Organic Cinnamon Powder, Activated Charcoal, 5x Myrrh Powder, and Organic Stevia.

Benefits:

  • Bentonite Clay and Activated Charcoal help to detoxify and wash away bacteria from the mouth.
  • Activated Charcoal helps to whiten teeth.
  • Myrrh extract powder helps to tone the gums.
  • Cinnamon has been used for dental care prior to the invention and regular use of toothpaste and can help prevent cavities.

How To Use:

Untitled-1 copy copy2

Note: Because of the natural darkness of the Activated Charcoal, you will need to take extra care when rinsing your mouth. Make sure to rinse until there is no residue left over. The powder is very easy to rinse off. Make sure to clean out your sink immediately after brushing as the Charcoal can tend to leave a dark residue left over!

**Do not add water to the jar of dry powder. Only add water to the palm of your hand or directly to your brush and massage gently into your palm to pick up the powder on the bristles.

Price, Size and Where To Purchase: This tooth powder comes in a 1 oz ($4.95) or 2 oz ($6.95) container. You can purchase this powder or any other tooth powder directly on Aquarian Bath’s Website or on their Etsy Shop.

Other Flavors: If you aren’t a fan of Cinnamon, no worries! This tooth powder comes in Mint, Black Licorice, & Berry Hibiscus.

Have you ever tried this or any other Tooth Powders? If so what were your experiences? I’d love to hear your thoughts and if you would ever be interested in trying out something like this!

Review | Badger Seabuckthorn Apricot and Pomegranate Antioxidant Hair Oil

495

I mentioned this hair oil in my latest Current Haircare Routine blog post. I received some messages regarding the oil (how I use it, how it works for my hair, etc). I have used other oils in my hair before like Argan Oil, Coconut Oil and Jojoba Oil. I love to use all three of those oils to deep-condition my hair but was interested to try Seabuckthorn Oil.

The Ingredients are quite impressive:

Ingredients: *Simmondsia Chinensis (Organic Jojoba) Oil, *Helianthus Annuus (Organic Sunflower) Oil, *Prunus Armeniaca (Organic Apricot) Oil, *Punica Granatum (Organic Pomegranate) Oil, CO2 Extracts of *Hippophae Rhamnoides (Organic Seabuckthorn) and *Rosa Canina (Organic Rosehip), Essential Oils of *Lavandula Angustifolia (Organic Lavender), *Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Organic Sweet Orange), *Pelargonium Graveolens (Organic Rose Geranium), and Tocopherol (Sunflower Vitamin E). * = Certified Organic

***

IMG_0208 copy

Benefits:

  • Seabuckthorn Oil protects cells from oxidative damage and aids in collagen production (rich in Vitamins A, B, C, E, & K).
  • Apricot Oil easily penetrates the hair cuticle, delivering nutrition to dry and damaged hair (rich in Vitamins A, C, & E).
  • Pomegranate Oil contains high levels of antioxidants, and also promotes regeneration and strengthening of hair (rich in Vitamins B and C).

Description: Treat your hair to vitamin and antioxidant-rich oils and extracts, and watch the shine and luster return to overworked hair. We’ve selected our most powerful oils to deliver naturally occurring vitamins A, B, C, E, and K to nourish and replenish hair. Seabuckthorn and Pomegranate promote hair strength and elasticity, and Apricot is a potent emollient, imparting moisture and shine. Rosehip possesses regenerative properties, helping hair to return to its healthiest state.

Directions for use:
Step 1: Apply oil evenly to clean, dry hair. Amount will vary depending on hair type and length.
Step 2: Massage oil into hair and scalp. Work from the roots to the tips. Use a comb or your fingers to ensure even distribution.
Step 3: Allow oil to soak into hair for 1 hour or overnight. (Tip: use an old towel to protect your linens.)
Step 4: Shampoo and condition, then style as usual.

***

My Thoughts: I was particularly tempted to try out the Badger Seabuckthorn Hair Oil after reading many reviews on it. I have been a big fan of Badger ‘s products for years now and think they are one of the most trustworthy and clean brands out there today. I also think their products are very affordable and easily accessible which is always a bonus. I have tried many of their skincare products but never their haircare products so I was excited to try a sample size of this oil. I wanted to use this oil enough times before giving my full and honest opinions on the results and I have been consistently using it for more than a month now. I like to use this oil once a week for the perfect deep-treatment for my hair. I will either leave it on for a few hours or overnight and after washing the oil out and drying my hair, it instantly has a beautiful sheen to it. My hair has also been way softer than usual and just looks healthier. This oil is by far my newest favorite to use!

Over all I think this hair oil is a must have for anyone who is interested in treating their luscious locks to some good and clean hair-loving oils! Also due to the delicious scents in this oil it’s also a wonderful nighttime aromatherapy for the senses!

Britanie

Food For Thought | Raw Vegan Chocolate Frosting or Pudding

I recently bought a Gluten-Free Vanilla Cupcake mix but realized that I didn’t have any frosting. Most frosting’s are full of artificial sugars and just plain old nasty ingredients that I am not too fond of putting in my body. I wanted to see if I could come up with my own frosting recipe using ingredients from my fridge. I decided to throw a few ingredients together and see how it worked out. I love that this frosting is completely raw and contains Avocados which are a very healthy and filling fat. This frosting is delicious. The consistency is very thick and creamy and could definitely be eaten on it’s own as a pudding!

Ingredients:

2 large avocados, pitted and scoop out flesh from peel
6 tbsp raw cacao or cocoa powder
1/3 cup agave syrup (or use pitted dates for a thicker consistency which would be great for pudding)
1 tsp vanilla extract
Dash sea salt
Dash cinnamon (optional)

Mix ingredients in a food processor, high speed blender or hand-held blender. Ice cupcakes and/or cake or eat as a pudding! Yum.

I used this recipe to frost my gluten free vanilla cupcakes but am saving the left over mix to eat as a pudding for dessert :)

If you try out this recipe please let me know what you think!

Rest, relax, and be in a letgo.

“Rest, relax, and be in a letgo. Letgo is the secret of life. Letgo is the secret of religion. Letgo is the greatest secret. When you are in a letgo many things, millions of things, start happening. They were already happening but you were never aware.” – Osho

Lately I have been really trying even harder to stay present in the moment and to surround myself with the most positive of energies that I can. I have a lot going on with my health right now and I could easily choose to just give in to the stress and the frustration of it all, but instead I am trying to focus on the things I am not lacking in: i.e.- love, support, inspiration, faith, hope.

It can be very easy from an outsiders view to look in on someones life (especially nowadays with blogs, facebook, twitter, etc) and to judge someone’s life based on a mere glimpse of what that person chooses to share with the world. I try to share the things that are hopeful and happy in my life. I will not ever pretend that everything in my life is perfect because there is no such thing as perfection. I also will never be actively negative on my blog or any other source of an outlet for myself and others.

I believe in being honest and real but there is nothing good that can come from focusing solely on the painful and sad things in your life. It’s normal and okay to share those things with people you love and trust but always bear in mind that negative energy can easily be contagious and projected and is not usually ever useful for neither yourself or anyone else.

My goal in my life is to find ways to cope with the hardships I have been given for whatever reason they may be. I plan to take whatever possible good I can from every painful thing I experience, both physical, emotional and mental. From pain comes knowledge and strength. I choose to keep pushing on through the setbacks so that I can find the light at the end of the tunnel. No matter how bad things get there is always something to be thankful for.

St. Francis of Assisi

Many of the stories that surround the life of St. Francis deal with his love for animals. Perhaps the most famous incident that illustrates the Saint’s humility towards nature is recounted in the “Fioretti” (“Little Flowers”), a collection of legends and folklore that sprang up after the Saint’s death. It is said that, one day, while Francis was traveling with some companions, they happened upon a place in the road where birds filled the trees on either side. Francis told his companions to “wait for me while I go to preach to my sisters the birds.”The birds surrounded him, intrigued by the power of his voice, and not one of them flew away. He is often portrayed with a bird, typically in his hand.

Organic Wild Rosehip Seed Oil  & 100% Pure Unrefined Shea Butter

I have been wanting to try pure Rosehip seed oil for awhile now and when I found this one for just $15.95 I had to get it. It’s an added bonus that it’s Organic. I also picked up some more Shea Butter because I go through it so quickly and this one in particular is so soft, it’s almost whipped! It goes on like a dream. Both of these are super hydrating (and affordable!).

fdfff

I went to the ER yesterday afternoon after having severe spasms in my stomach for the past few days. It got worse yesterday and I decided it probably best to go get it checked out. I deal with chronic digestive issues on a daily basis but these spasms were consistent and different than usual. I spent four hours in the ER, had x-ray’s and blood work and thankfully they didn’t find anything serious. I am scheduled for exploratory surgery on Friday to rule out any possibility of an Ulcer, Diverticulitis, etc. If everything comes back normal than it’s most likely my Spastic Colon that’s causing the pain. I will feel better once I have everything ruled out though.

I will go back to what I said earlier in this post and that is that I am focusing on the good that came from this situation. I ended up meeting someone at the hospital who recommended a specific medication for my chronic nausea and so far it’s been life changing.

There is a reason for everything we experience (good or bad). It may not always be our destiny in this lifetime to know the reason why, but it is up to us to decide what to do with the information we are given and whether or not we wish to turn it into something positive.

DeVita Skincare | Cappuccino-Cocoa Mud Masque

A trip to Chocolate-Land Without the Calories!

Cappuccino-Cocoa Mud Masque

IMG_1161

(sample size)

***

Just the sound of this mask is enough to make your mouth water and just wait until you try it on your face! Most of us love Chocolate and Cappuccino but would you ever think to use it on your face? You won’t regret it. This masque literally smells like the most delicious cup of hot chocolate that ever existed! I’m hooked.

As you can see from the photo above, I used most of this sample pretty quickly. It’s like dessert for my face. I look forward to using this at night and must get a full size! I like to leave this masque on for 10-20 minutes. It dries fast and will start to tingle a bit. It washes of very easily with warm water and leaves my face feeling soft and looking clear!

This mask dries pretty fast. I took this photo a few minutes after applying and you can probably see some of the mask is hardened.

Zosimos Botanicals Mineral Powder and Cream Shadows | Review and Swatches

I was super excited to try out a multitude of mineral and cream shadows from Zosimos Botanicals after hearing so many amazing things about their brand. I wanted to do a review and show some swatches of all of the colors I received. I am truly loving every color so much. I recently did a look using only three colors from Zosimos and plan to do more!

Zosimos Botanicals is a Handcrafted Mineral Makeup and Natural Skincare line made out from a 100% wind-powered studio. Everything is skillfully created in small batches using only the purest essential oils, waxes, herbs, fruit extracts and floral waters. Their exclusive personal care products are custom made fresh for you upon order, not simply taken off a shelf and put in a box. Everything is cruelty-free and made without synthetic chemicals such as parabens, nanoparticles, sulfates or other toxins. Many products are also Vegan.

IMG_1104

I love that Zosimos Botanicals allows you to get a sample of anything on the site. The samples are more than generous and could lasts months. Each sample comes in a little bag with a sponge-tip brush and a little Mini Pot. The packaging is adorable and I can’t say enough how impressed I am with the generosity of the samples. For just $3.00 you truly cannot beat the amount of product given in each pot. I think it’s a great way to be able to try out many products at once without spending an arm and a leg on one or two items that you aren’t sure you will even like.

Vegan Cream Shadows:

“Our cream shadows give full coverage and are long lasting. Spread some color over the eyelid with your finger and you’re good to go! Great for layering and blending with loose powder shadows as well. For help comparing shades see our Cream Shadow Color Chart.”

Price for Full Size: $20.00

Price for Sample: $3.00

Ingredients: Vary from color to color but most of the cream shadows contain Organic Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil; Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (Fractionated Coconut Oil); Organic Castor Oil; Mica; Wildcrafted Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax; Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil; Castor Wax; Tapioca Starch; Ultramarines; Iron Oxides, Kaolin.

IMG_0977

(from L to R: Amethyst, Larkspur Blue, Fools Gold, Bronze, Branch, Ivory Sparkle, Silverbelle)

My Thoughts: I am a huge cream shadow fan and when switching over to all non-toxic products I was worried I would have a hard time replacing my beloved MAC paint pots and Maybelline 24-Hour Tattoo Cream Shadows which I used daily. I was really excited to try these cream shadows because they appeared extremely pigmented on the website. I fell in love with Fool’s Gold at first swatch! It is so pigmented and is the perfect gold color. It is definitely my favorite out of all of the cream shadows I received. My next favorite is definitely Amethyst as it’s the perfect base color for layering purples and browns on top of and it’s a beautiful color on it’s own. Branch is my favorite to use as an eyeliner because of how pigmented it is. All of these cream shadows can be used as a gel-like eyeliner. I love to pair Larkspur Blue and Silverbelle together. The only color out of these that I wasn’t completely impressed with is Ivory Sparkle and I think it’s because I am so pale that it just didn’t show up on me very well but I could see that color being flattering on darker complexions. I am very impressed with these and although they do eventually end up creasing a bit – it’s not horrible creasing and it doesn’t happen immediately like many other natural cream shadows tend to do. I also find that if I put shadow on top of the cream shadows that they last a lot longer!

***

Mineral Powder Eye Shadows:

“Hate to throw things away? Then these Eye Shadow Mineral Powders are for you! Minerals do not support bacterial growth. That means even if bacteria is presented, it will not live. These will last for years, or until you use them up. Hopefully the latter comes sooner! So stock up on all these beautiful shades, no need to worry about expiration dates here. For help comparing shades see our Eye Shadow Color Chart. Click Here for suggested eye shadow pairings.”

IMG_1081

IMG_1091

(From L to R: Lilac Shimmer, Amethyst, Grape, Blackberry, Redbud, Evergreen)

Price for Full Size: $14.00

Price for Sample: $3.00

Ingredients: Vary from color to color but most contain Mica; Kaolin; Zinc Oxide (Non-nano) and Ultramarines.

My Thoughts: These swatches were done without using any primer at all. The pigmentation is wonderful. I sometimes have a love/hate relationship with loose mineral shadows as many of them tend to have a lot of all out and also don’t tend to have much pigmentation. These shadows all came out extremely pigmented with just one tiny swipe of the shadow. I have used these with and without eye primer and they last on my eyelids all day. If you tend to have oily eye lids than I would opt to go with a primer but I find that on days when I don’t have time to do all of the priming steps that these shadows sweep on easily and blend extremely well. I also love to layer these on top of the cream shadows for an extra pop of color! My favorite colors from the samples I received are Gold Hilite – such a unique and bright gold color. Redbud, Blackberry and Lilac Shimmer. I’ve been playing around with all of these constantly and keep finding endless color combinations. I definitely plan to try out more colors and I love that these never expire!!

***

I will be doing some more upcoming Look of The Day’s wearing both the cream shadows and the mineral powder eye shadows very soon. Check out my last look!  I also received some sample lipsticks which I will do a separate review on. Keep a look out for both of those.

Have you ever tried anything from Zosimos Botanicals?

Favorite Tinted Moisturizers | Part 1

I was inspired by a series on No More Dirty Looks where the girls featured a series of their favorites foundations. I thought that was a great idea to do a separate post dedicated to each favorite product instead of putting all of the favorites into one big post. Instead of doing my favorite foundations I decided to go for my favorite Tinted Moisturizers as I find that they are what I reach for most of the time and what I prefer over most liquid and mineral foundations. I might do more series posts like this featuring specific products like Concealers, Mascara’s, etc. Please let me know if you would like me to do a series of blog posts dedicated to my favorite natural products and which you would be the most interested in seeing!

This will be a series of four posts featuring four different tinted moisturizers that I love and use often. Starting off this series is a product I recently tested out and have been loving- It is the Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF20 by Marie Veronique Organics.

esc_385_grande

This Tinted Moisturizer/SPF protects against both UVA and UVB rays with non-nano zinc oxide and provides a sheer matte finish that makes it ideal for everyday use.

The result is a smooth, sheer matte finish and peace of mind knowing your skin is protected.mRecommended for all skin types, Everyday Sheer Coverage SPF 20 is the only UVA/UVB sunscreen made with 16.6 % non-nano zinc oxide. This Tinted Moisturizer comes in four different shades: Extra Light Tint, Light Tint, Medium Tint and Dark Tint.

KEY INGREDIENTS

Non-nano zinc oxide

Non-nano zinc oxide protects against the full UV spectrum, UVA as well as UVB. It works by reflecting UV rays rather than absorbing them. And, it’s highly stable, unlike most chemical sunscreens, which can generate free radicals that cause skin damage.

Pearl powder

This powder contains calcium carbonate and conchiolin, alternating layers of which create a pearl’s luster. Its light reflective qualities also make it ideal for cosmetic foundations where a lustrous finish is desired. Reflected light makes skin appear brighter, dark circles appear less dark and wrinkles appear shallower.

Oat Beta glucansThis polysaccaride known for its ability to penetrate deeply, delivers significant anti-aging benefits because it moisturizes at deeper layers of the skin.

ALL INGREDIENTS

Active ingredient: 16.6% non-nano zinc oxide.

Camellia sinensis (green & white tea), non-nano zinc oxide, vegetable glycerin, Brassica oleracea italica (broccoli seed oil), Prunus avium (cherry kernel seed oil), emu oil, Punica granatum (pomegranate seed oil), Rubus idaeus (red raspberry seed oil), Tocopherol (vitamin E), Calodendrum capense (yangu oil), Cosmocil CQ*, xanthan gum, n-acetyl glucosamine, lecithin, potassium sorbate, pearl powder, Rosemarinus officinalis (rosemary oleoresin), beta glucan, Coffea arabica (coffee fruit extract), Hydrolyzed silk (silk powder), Rosa centifolia (rose) essential oil, Citrus aurantium bigaradia (neroli) essential oil, Helichrysum italicum (helichrysum essential oil), Cistus incanus (cistus) essential oil, iron oxides

*Paraben-free anti-microbial agent

NO HARMFUL INGREDIENTS

No harmful chemicals, nanoparticles, parabens, fillers, waxes, or fragrances.

MY THOUGHTS

I went with Extra Light Tint for my fair skin and find that the color matches me perfectly. I think in the warmer months I could possibly go a little darker by using the Light Tint but for the most part I am very happy with the shade I use. The scent is very herbally. It almost smells of flowers. It can be a little bit hard to really rub into the skin if you have very dry skin like I do. I tend to use a light moisturizer underneath this for added hydration. Once it’s on the skin it’s fairly easy to blend and I prefer to use my fingers with this and with most tinted moisturizers. I really like that this tinted moisturizer not only protects my skin with healthy SPF but it also moisturizes, covers redness well and lasts on my skin all day without getting shiny or greasy. This product has also never caused me to breakout or left me with any irritated skin. After using this only a few times I knew it was already in my top four favorites!

***

Look for my Part 2 in the Tinted Moisturizer series soon!
