DIY | Organic Lavender and Vanilla Sugar Body Scrub

This is  currently my  favorite body scrub that I have created! The mix of fresh lavender and subtle vanilla is such a relaxing scent and great to use before bed!

Body scrubs are so easy and fun to make and are extremely affordable.  It’s not necessary  to spend money on high-end body scrubs when you can make your own with an infinite amount of options! Once you start to use body scrubs on a regular basis, you will be hooked!

This scrub will leave your skin feeling soft and moisturized! You may not even have to moisturize with lotion or oil after bathing or showering when using this scrub. I have severely dry skin and find that when I use this  my skin stays moisturized long enough to not even need to use anything else for moisture!

Another bonus is that while making this, the entire kitchen smells like Lavender and Vanilla! So you are not only getting softer skin, but aromatherapy benefits as well!

Ingredients:

  1. Organic Lavandin Essential Oil
  2. Vanilla Essential Oil
  3. Organic Coconut Oil
  4. Organic Brown Sugar
  5. Fresh Lavender Buds

Directions:

  1. Crush fresh Lavender buds (I used 1/2 cup) and mix with Sugar (1 cup) with a mortar and pestle (if you have one).
  2. Add in five drops of Lavandin or Lavender Oil and Vanilla Oil
  3. Mix the lavender buds, sugar and essential oils
  4. Stir in one tablespoon of Coconut Oil, mix well until everything is blended
  5. Store in glass jar and leave in bathroom or fridge

Notes:

  1. I used Lavandin in this recipe because I was out of my Lavender Oil but you can use either! They are essentially the same.
  2. You can substitute white sugar for the brown if you prefer a lighter exfoliation.
  3. Organic Essential Oils are always the best but again sometimes more expensive so don’t fret about it too much!
  4. I usually buy my oils and jars from Mountain Rose Herbs, but was out of the ingredients from past scrubs! I am expecting a big shipment soon!
  5. Please be careful after using any body scrub with oil in it as it will make your tub slippery! Make sure to wash after using!

  1. I swear you read my mind. I have been thinking about doing a diy lavender and vanilla salt scrub all day and then I received an email notification of your sugar scrub. I’m definitely going to be trying this but with salt instead!

    1. That’s so funny! It was meant to be! 🙂 Do you prefer salt in your body scrubs? I have never been a huge fan of salt scrubs as it usually irritates my skin if I have any cuts or anything it stings so bad! I find the sugar is a lot better at exfoliating and is gentler! I do love epsom salt for baths though!

      1. It was!
Yes I do prefer salt over sugar because I get breakouts on my back and shoulders. I find that salt scrubs dry them up, while sugar just makes them worse. Gotta agree though, sugar is much gentler.
        Xo!

      2. Oh, okay! Good to know. That’s great it works so well for you!! Have you ever used Sugar on your face before? I find that sugar scrubs actually help with any breakouts I have on my face! let me know how your scrub is with the salt! I might have to give salt another try and just make sure to shave AFTER using it so it doesn’t sting like crazy!

        xo

  2. Loving this Britanie, I love how you incorporated lavender buds. It looks like such a treat and what a fabulous gifting idea!

    1. Thank you darling!! I love lavender buds! They are really versatile. Are you able to use lavender buds? I remember you saying your body doesn’t react to lavender very well anymore! I just wondered if that was only to the essential oil or to the buds as wel!

  3. Love this and Love the mortar and pestle, please share….where did you find such a pretty mortar and pestle…..I absolutely have to have it 🙂

    1. Hey! Thank you so much! I purchased the mortar and pestle locally at a kitchen specialty shop. Any kitchen or specialty store has them! They are incredible and versatile for the
fine grinding of spices, seeds, and such. I highly recommend getting one!

      1. It’s so unique, love! The only ones I’m able to find are the marble looking ones that are white and gray, boring, blah! Omgosh, it’s so on now, I have to find one like yours 🙂 Keep up the wonderful blog.

      2. So, I’m looking online right now for it, is yours made from palm wood? Do you think it matters if it’s marble, wood, ceramic?

      3. Oh thank you so much, such a sweet heart! I loveeee this mini, just what I was looking for. So much appreciate you responding and helping me with this. 🙂

  4. I just found your blog through NMDL. Can you please give the amounts of Lavendar buds and sugar you used? This sounds fabulous, I’m going to make it at my first opportunity. Thanks!

    1. Hi Jennifer!! Thanks for your comment! I used 1 cup of Sugar and 1/2 cup of the Lavender buds! I am going to add that into my blog post now! It really depends on the amount you want to make.. for instance this scrub lasted me for three uses. If you want it to last you longer just simply double the recipe!! Please let me know what you think of it if you do make it!! xo

  5. How long will this keep once it’s made? This sounds so amazing and I’m thinking about giving some as gifts, but want to be able to tell the recipients the “expiration date.” Does it need to be refrigerated or will it keep just fine at room temperature? Thanks so much!

    1. Hi there!! What a wonderful gift to give for the holiday’s! I am going to be doing the same thing! What I personally do is keep it in an air-tight jar and leave it in my bathroom so that I can use it whenever I shower! However, if I am going to make extra batches of it then I do keep the extra’s in the fridge. If you want it to last longer than you can absolutely refrigerate it, but it’s not essential to do so! It’s fine in room temperature but best if away from direct sunlight. Thanks for commenting, by the way and also please do let me know what you and your loved ones think of the recipe!!!

  6. Hi there was just wondering how long can u keep this in the bathroom & can u use fresh lavender or rose petals & keep in bathroom also? Or will it go mouldy? Thanks
