Embrace Your Naked Face | Confidence Without Makeup

“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides. The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole, but true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul. It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she shows, and the beauty of a woman, with passing years, only grows!”Audrey Hepburn

It may seem strange for me to do a post about how to be confident without wearing makeup as I do many makeup looks on my blog and posts about my favorite beauty items, etc. However, I have always stated that although I love makeup and I see it as a form of art – for the most part I like to keep my face bare or with very little coverage and color.

I think makeup is a wonderful thing but I also think it can be seriously overused and misused. We all have flaws – it’s what makes us human. Instead of hiding every flaw, why not let them show? The more you show off the things you aren’t confident about, the more confident you will become about those things. Sound confusing? It’s not.

Here are some of my personal tips on how to be more confident without (or with little) makeup:

1.) Acknowledge and -embrace- your insecurities:

We all have insecurities. There is no denying that. There is also no shame in being insecure as long as you can acknowledge that you are insecure about something and try to change the way you view that insecurity. For example: I used to be severely insecure about my freckles. Since I was younger, no matter how much sun screen I put on my skin, I would develop freckles within ten minutes of being in the sun. I used to think they were awful until I started to look at them differently. I dated someone once who was obsessed with freckles and would frequently take photographs of mine and others freckles and I started to notice the beauty and uniqueness in them. I now not only accept my freckles but I try my hardest not to cover them up anymore. I also have dark circles which I can’t say I am proud of but I can say I am not nearly as insecure about them anymore and I don’t freak out if I go outside or take photographs without covering the darkness with concealer. I also have redness around my nose (thanks allergies) and I used to always put concealer to cover up the redness and now I let my skin breathe more and I let those flaws shine through. The more you let your flaws make you unique, the more you will come to appreciate those things that make you who you are.

“What you do, the way you think, makes you beautiful.”Scott Westerfield

2.) Take care of your skin:

Our skin is our biggest organ, take care of it! So many of us are focused on what we put IN our bodies but neglect what we put ON our bodies. What we put on our skin is ultimately absorbed into our bloodstream so you want to make sure to use the safest and cleanest ingredients as possible. I also say that a little bit goes a long way. You don’t need to have five or ten products in order to have a good skincare regimen or to take care of your skin. As long as you are using common sense when it comes to your skin and taking care of it, you will see results. Think simplicity when it comes to the ingredients you look out for and the routine you develop. When your skin looks better, you will feel more confident without wearing makeup and if you do decide to wear makeup, it will look even better on well treated skin!

3.) A little goes a long way:

You will be surprised at what a few simple things like curling your lashes and grooming your brows will do for your face and features. Add a little tinted moisturizer and lip balm and you will be ready to go. I suggest trying out tinted moisturizer if you are someone who is used to wearing heavy foundation. I also suggest tinted lip balms and investing in a good eyelash curler and brow set! If you are going to wear makeup, focus on enhancing your features instead of covering them. Dab a little cream blush on the apples of your cheeks or swipe some light bronzer to accentuate the cheek bones. The focus should be on enhancing, not covering.

4.) Positive Affirmations:

I have talked about how important it is to be positive and to use mantras and affirmations both here and here. Something as seemingly simple as telling yourself that you are beautiful and worthy can be more helpful than you realize. When you use positive affirmations on a regular basis you will start to see results in your confidence level and over all being. Whenever you feel like something about your physical appearance isn’t what you consider to be “beautiful” or “right” – just tell yourself something that you do love about yourself and take it from there. For however many bad things you can think about yourself, I promise you there are more good, you just have to dig a little deeper to recognize them sometimes!

  1. your freckles! i love them. i like to let my skin breathe as much as possible and will typically try to take a little time to curl my lashes, cover up blemishes and add some gloss. my weekend face is my boyfriend’s favorite 🙂

    1. Thanks babe! It’s so good to let your skin breathe! I couldn’t live without my lash curler and some lip balm or lip gloss! I do love concealer – I won’t lie but I like to let my skin be naked as much as I can. I notice that you never over do it with makeup. You have beautiful skin. I think most guys actually prefer women with little to no makeup! No one likes getting foundation and lipgloss rubbed off on them! haha 🙂

  2. Ohh you have freckles as well 🙂 So nice 🙂 You look gorgeous with or without makeup sweetie. It’s true, it’s about the confidence from the inside.
I like my no makeup days – it gives my skin time to breath and get some rest! And i can go ahead and pamper myself with a nice fresh mask 🙂

    1. I definitely do have freckles! They tend to shy away during the colder months and depending on the light it can sometimes appear like I have little or no freckles at all but I definitely have them! When Spring and Summer are here they flock to me like crazy. It’s nice to not worry about wanting to cover them all the time, I just let them do their thing! haha. That’s great that you give your skin some resting time and let it breathe! Face masks and pampering times are the best 🙂 also thank you so much for your compliment and comment 🙂 ❤

      1. I think my freckles haven’t been ever that visible, but if you come closer you def see them all over my face, and of course during summer even more. Never been someone to cover them up, what for?

  3. I don’t wear makeup at all! I mean I stare at the foundation stick I bought that I thought I would use..I’m actually kind of self-conscious about all the acne scars on my face. It looks like I have small reddish bumps everywhere, and I guess I don’t even need blush! Even though I’m self-conscious about my face, I don’t know why I don’t use makeup more often. Possibly because I’m so lazy!

P.S. I think you look gorgeous with your freckles! 😀

    1. Hey Marcy,
That’s awesome that you don’t wear makeup at all. I love to play around with it but for the most part I like to let my skin breathe. It can be a wonderful thing to have when you need to cover up a blemish or scar, etc but I just think it’s so important to embrace your natural face more often that way you can appreciate makeup more and use it more for enhancing and not covering. You shouldn’t be self conscious about your face, you are beautiful. ❤

  4. I used to wear primer, concealer, foundation, powder, blush, bronzer – the whole shibang. I was spending so much $ on makeup in my college years that I decided to cut down. Eventually, I became comfortable enough to forego makeup all together, dare I say. After a few weeks of going without my makeup routine, I found I had more time and more $. I have not worn the same amount of makeup since – even when I go out!

…You don’t even need makeup anyways!

    1. That’s wonderful. I go through phases of wearing makeup and then not. I do love makeup and I love to do different looks and to go out and do a smokey-eye and play up my features but for the most part I like to be bare-faced and to let my skin breathe! It’s always best to not wear any makeup but if you are going to wear it, the cleaner the ingredients, the better and the less you focus on covering up all of your “flaws” the more you let your true beauty show. Thank you for your comment 🙂

  5. I think this is excellent and more people should be proud of the natural beauty they have been endowed with. In addition I think that the media, fashion industry and film industry put far too much stress on people appearing as other than what they really are. Looks can be deceiving, and so can a ‘pretty’ face that is completely masked by make up!
Thanks for the like on my blog. I think your blog is a fashion and make up blog with a bit of a difference, so well done you!

    1. I am so happy you liked this post. I completely agree with you that media and the fashion industry puts so much stress and unrealistic expectations on women. I boycotted fashion and beauty magazines awhile ago because of that. Thank you for your comment. I love your blog 🙂

  6. Britanie . You are so breathtakingly beautiful .
    and a sweetHeart ❤
    the freckles are adorable 🙂

wishing you a lovely weekend xoxo

  7. Britanie –
You are so beautiful with your freckles! I was surprised!
I think after doing some modeling in my teens, I got turned off by foundation style makeup. I’m with Kim. I wear my “weekend face” 7 days a week. Curled lashes, Luster, and eyeliner if I want to get extra fancy!
    Gorgeous girl, you are.
    S.

    1. Sarah! Thank you so much for commenting. You are the sweetest. Many people are surprised at how many freckles I have! They come out much more when the sun is out. You don’t even need makeup – your skin is perfect.
      P.S.
I am working on the review + giveaway for the milky rose soap and body oil!
      xo

  8. Wow, Britanie, you are lovely with make-up but your natural beauty is so striking! I 100% love the no make-up look, and I go make-up free most days. If I do wear anything it is usual just alittle Vapour Organic concealer, as I find it melts into my skin so perfectly its all I need, and it looks like I have nothing on. Some times Ill add powder, bronzer, mascara, and I always wear lip balm, but thats about it!
I think the one thing that we need to remember is that make-up dosnt always make us look ‘better’, but different, and we are so encouraged to think its normal, we might not realize we are hiding some of that natural beauty, by covering our faces up with so much!
Make-up is fun, and can be powerful in the way it helps you to feel, but most of the time I think bare beauty is best!
    Thanks Britanie, great post. 🙂
    Alaya.

    1. Thank you so much for your comment! I love the Vapour concealer – it’s wonderful for a natural “no makeup” look. Have you tried their foundation? It’s also wonderful and doesn’t cover everything up so it just looks very natural and luminous. I completely agree with needing to remember that make up doesn’t always make us look better. It’s definitely fun to play with and wear but we should all be encouraged to go bare faced more often!
      xx

  9. Britanie, you look radiant! I love freckles. Simply gorgeous.

I keep my day to day makeup looking pretty natural, though I like to do more of a dramatic smokey eye at night if I’m going out. Some mascara and my Vapour Organic Luminous Foundation are usually what I wear everyday. The Vapour foundation is so light and breathable, it feels weightless and lets your real skin shine through. I find it keeps my skin feeling moisturized and comfortable throughout the day.

But, you know, no one else I know wears makeup on a daily basis like I do. All the women in my life rarely wear it, and I love seeing their confidence in their natural beauty. I’ve always adored makeup, and I love using it creatively to enhance the things I like about my face (and camouflage the things I’m too crazy about), but I feel that I have a healthy relationship with makeup. I never feel obligated to wear it, and I never feel less beautiful without it. Great post, Britanie!

    1. Hi! aww thank you so much 🙂
The vapour luminous foundation is wonderful and so good for a natural look. I love their blushes and lipsticks, too! I think makeup is wonderful to use creatively and to enhance features, I just think it’s important for women to embrace their naked face more often. You definitely have a healthy relationship with makeup if you appreciate it and love using it but don’t feel that you “have” to. It’s all about balance and simplicity! Thanks so much for your comment, love 🙂

  10. I go through periods of no make up at all, right now I’m prioritizing sleep and meditation and rarely have time for make-up before university, which I also bike to in unpredictable weather… I struggle with feeling confident but it helps to think about how beautiful natural women around me look, like my sister for example. I see the same thing in your pictures today, love those freckles!

Taking good care of my skin has helped a lot too, I have fewer breakouts and less redness these days. Oh and the sleep makes a major difference!

    1. I go through the same thing! Sleep and Mediation = perfection. You are beautiful. You just have to keep reminding yourself of that until you really believe it. Taking care of your skin is a huge step to feeling more confident about not wearing makeup. Sleep is definitely a huge thing… I think it’s a big reason behind my dark circles. Thank you so much for your comment.

  11. I am not kidding Britanie, these are the most beautiful pictures of you I have ever seen. One of the most naturally stunning women alive, I look look like a sunburned hobbit without makeup. Not kidding. God bless you.

  12. Aghh your so perfect without makeup im jealous of people with freckles they honestly make people look cuter and prettier.

  13. How i wish i can think that way. I have dark circles and eyebag since little. and it is there because of allergy and genetic factors. I try hard to accept it but at some point, i wonder myself, why did i have all these? For me, u are still looking great with those freckles thou 🙂
