I think it’s fair to say that we could all use a little more happiness in our lives. Regardless of what obstacles we face or what pain we endure, everyone can benefit from a few easy and healthy tips that will help to make you feel happier and calmer. These tips will also make you more appreciative of the little things in life and teach you to live in the moment.
1.) Live In The Now:
Living in the moment and being mindful is a state of active, open, intentional attention on the present. When you become mindful, you realize that you are not your thoughts; you become an observer of your thoughts from moment to moment without judging them.
Many of us get caught up in an unhealthy cycle of worrying about the future or dwelling on past experiences. When you give up the worry of tomorrow and the regret of yesterday, you are allowing yourself to live in the moment and to relinquish unnecessary worries and negative thoughts. In order to find the balance that many of us seek on a daily basis, we must step out of the current moment, pause and breathe. You must get comfortable with resting in stillness and once you can do that, you will be able to focus on just being in the moment where you are. Live in the now and forever be at peace.
2.) Surround Yourself With Love:
“Eventually, you will come to understand that love heals everything, and love is all there is.” – Gary Zukav
Whether it be with friends, family, or a significant other, make sure that you are surrounding yourself with people who truly have your best interest at heart. Being around people (and animals) that you love can make all the difference in the world. Having unconditional love in your life can help you through the toughest of times and brings a sense of peace. Everyone deserves love and everyone can have love. Love is, after all, the highest vibration of healing. So start loving more and letting yourself be loved more.
3.) Start Your Mornings Off Right:
How you start your morning is what sets the standards for the rest of the day. If you make a decision to start off your mornings right and feed your body with the right fuel, you will be happier for doing so. I like to start out by drinking a fresh Green Juice or making a Green Smoothie. I also usually brew myself an Organic cup of Low-Acid Coffee and a cup of Detoxing Tea. I follow that with a protein filled meal and by mid-afternoon I don’t feel hungry and I feel much more balanced. I also like to do some type of stretching when I first wake up to really get my body moving. Yoga and Pilates are wonderful. Another tip to get your thyroid, digestion and blood circulating is to Dry Brush your body before your morning shower. Check out my post on Dry Brushing if you aren’t familiar with the massive beauty and health benefits that it provides.
4.) Meditate, Meditate, Meditate:
Meditation doesn’t have to be a scary or intimidating thing. If you start by focusing on closing your eyes and listening to your breath, you are meditating! Meditation won’t always come easy if you are a stressed out person but if you get in the habit of forcing yourself to sit down and close your eyes and meditate for just five minutes a day, you will see and feel a difference. Slowly build up to sitting and meditating longer until you aren’t even focusing on anything else but your breathing. Don’t overwhelm yourself, start slowly and just breathe. Meditating will come easy after practicing it daily and you will feel calmer and be happier for doing so.
5.) Positive Affirmations:
Let’s be honest – We all have insecurities. We wouldn’t be human without them. It’s okay to feel those moments of insecurity or self-doubt but the sooner you start to replace those negative thoughts with positive ones, you will see results. Finding the good in something is always more effective than focusing on only the negative. Start by telling yourself every day that you are beautiful (it sounds cliche but it works). Another tip is to write down things that you love and appreciate about yourself. It is not about being narcissistic or cocky, it is about honoring the qualities within yourself that are there in all of us but can so easily become masked by self-degradation. You don’t have to believe it in order to say it. Just start by telling yourself one thing that is positive. For example: “I am worthy of love and acceptance”, “I am a good person and I deserve happiness”, “I am beautiful at any size”, “I accept myself for who I am”. It might seem like these affirmations won’t matter much but the more you practice them on a daily basis and with positive intention, you will see results and you will start to appreciate and love yourself more.
Other simple steps to becoming a happier and more balanced person: Practice yoga, Read more, Get adequate sleep, Take Vitamin D3, Try aromatherapy, Get a massage, De-Stress your life, Organize your goals, Write down your daily intentions, love more and always be compassionate.

love this, britanie. i think it’s important to remember that natural beauty runs so much deeper than the products we use. if we aren’t happy, no skincare or makeup can make us beautiful! i love the idea of the affirmations, too. i actually have a fun “inspiration” folder of images that i have set to cycle through my computer desktop background that help me stay happy, laugh and think about the bigger picture. have a happy week! xoxo
Thank you, babe! It’s definitely much more deeper than the products we use. No amount of makeup (natural or not) will make you happy. I love affirmations and I love your inspiration folder idea! I think I might have to do that too. Thanks for the comment and tip, love! xoxo
i love you and this so much
I love you! ❤
Thanks for a great post. It is so important to take care of our emotional/spiritual selves as well as our physical selves. A few years ago I got caught in a terrible place of depression and low self-worth. I felt completely hopeless, useless and worthless. I finally couldn’t stand it anymore and got help, professional and otherwise. It was suggested to me that I write “Be kind to my friend Jennifer today” on a piece of paper and post it in a spot I would see everyday. I wrote it in red lipstick on my bathroom mirror. It stayed there for a little over a year. For about the first six months I didn’t consciously see it because I avoided, at all cost, looking in the mirror. But I could see the red out of the corner of my eye and that was a reminder of the words. The day finally came when I was able to clean it off the mirror. Today, I don’t always remember to practice it, but I’m much better than I was. I’ve learned to be my own friend and to be kind to myself. I believe that beauty on the inside is where it’s at.
Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. I understand the depression and low self-worth all too well. It can be a hard thing to get through but just having the intention to want to change is a huge step and I love that you wrote that on your mirror. You should write something nice about yourself every day and look at it. Seriously. Being kind to yourself is so important and I am so happy to hear that you are able to do that now. I agree, beauty on the inside is where it’s at, completely. Thank you again for sharing <3<3
